Painting a Mahina?

I was wondering if anyone ever found a good way to do this? I cut and painted one, but the paint cracked, and it ultimately hurt my high arches too much. I bought another one, in the larger size, in a color I like better, but still would like a permanent, nice paint job on it. Since the mahina is latex, would latex paint work...?

I used both plastidip and regular latex spray paint. I might have just coated it too thickly, but it did crack after swimming in it.
