MerNetwork now has an Android app!

As an experiment we are trying a paid tier with Tapatalk, which includes the removal of ads and a custom app in the Google play store. It is possible to get an iOS app later but it costs extra, so for now we're testing out the custom app they make before deciding whether to also release an app for iPhones.

Android users can download the app from the Google Play store. If you'd try it out and let us know what you think we'd really appreciate it. Let me know if you have any questions.

if you're paying for it does that mean you don't get any revenue from ads anymore? it's been a while since mernetwork did any fundraising so I am just wondering how ya'll paying the bills LOL

Ha, we never got revenue from ads. The ads are from Tapatalk. That's how Tapatalk makes money since it's a free app.

Hosting costs for MerNetwork are paid for out of pocket by Iona and me, plus the occasional fundraiser. We get help from the mods who give their time.

Cool, I'm installing it. I found Tapatalk itself was a bit much, rather overloaded. I look forward to seeing how this will differ from that.

Ooh I like the simple splash screen as it loads.

Now I'm looking at it, and I love it. The app has a great interface, isn't overcrowded, and is easy to navigate. You did a great job on this! Thanks for creating it! :)

This is very much a solid app and I can't wait until the day this is on the iPhone. There is no slow down at all. The chatroom from Tapatalk runs smoothly. Pictures load up just fine. I love the color scheme. The ads on Tapatalk drains the data on my iPhone so I'm having to use the website at work to protect my data. Even if there a little one time premium for iPhone users at first to use it, I'll be happy to have this app. I love this app.

For those that know me, I am an iPhone user. I open remote into my computer on my iPhone and use Blue Stack to run Android off my PC. Oddly enough everything resize itself so I get the android feel on my iPhone when I'm on the same wifi network. Even with all that piggybacking, this app runs smoothly where as Facebook does not. Really good job :)

Thanks for that feedback! Although I just want to clarify that the removal of ads for MerNetwork applies to both the custom app and to the forum when viewed through the Tapatalk app. Now that we have a premium account with Tapatalk users won't see ads no matter how they access the forum.

Actually we did get money from Tapatalk ads. It just went to my PayPal (since I'm the legal owner or whatever) and I kept track of it all. That's how I've paid some of the invoices- and for a couple of years they paid for a good chunk of the server payments so we didn't have to raise as much money. Remember we talked about how we'd be paying more for the app and lose that revenue? But I'm all for trying it out for a year and seeing if we can make up the difference. We were getting less and less ad money in the past year, either because Tapatalk lowered our cut, or potentially because people stopped using it.

Oh, I'm sorry, I totally forgot that conversation. Anyway f*** ads. I'd like to try ad free at least for a little while. We can ask members later whether they prefer having periodic fundraisers or having advertisements in the app.

Fyi, I just discovered a new error. Looking at the app, a thread says there is one reply. Looking at the thread, it's still just the starter post. Also checked on pc, and again, it's just the starter post.

Yeah, if you go to settings and click on signature you can customize it.

Oooh nice! I'm on my phone more often than my laptop, as I get wifi issues with both of my laptops for some reason (my phone has never, not even once, had that problem... :thinks:). Now that there's an app, I'l probably be on more.

Can you send a screenshot? Are you talking about when you use a browser on a regular computer or a mobile device? Does it only do it when you're not logged, or does it do it every time you visit the site?

You got me interested. If not for you, then I probably would not have known that such applications exist. I was looking for information about such applications and quite by accident I stumbled upon this site (https://realspyapps.com/review/umobix/) Here is a detailed review of one of them. Perhaps I also need such an application to remotely control my child. I will study the information.
