Hello I'm a 24 year old Selkie mermaid from Scotland.
If you're wondering what a Selkie is I can explain.
A Selkie is like a mermaid but she's really a seal who sheds her seal skin when on dry land and turns into a woman. She then hides her skin as if a man finds it and manages to hide it from her she must marry him, but if she finds it again she is allowed to leave him and head back to the sea leaving him to pine after her. Selkie's are most common on the islands and highlands of Scotland and Ireland. We are very like mermaids and can still be considered mermaids at times. Especially when we only wear the tail of our skin.
Random fact. Scotland's national animal is a unicorn so mermaids are pretty welcome with the whole magical thing despite the fact that mer life doesn't seem to be as big here as it is in places like the United States, Canada and/Australia. I think the quietness of it adds to the magical and mysterious-ness of it all though don't you think?
Im a mermaid in training at the moment while I hunt for my seal skin. And hope to find other mermaids / mermaid selkies here in Scotland. I also sing (or siren call) as I love music.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Hello from the USA! I love your story! I have often read about Selkies in high school. That is definitely one of my favorite stories. :)
I am growing a tail(making one) and training with a monofin. I hope you will find the same love and support from the mercommunity as I have on your quest. Best of luck to you! Don't be shy about asking questions if you need help with anything.

It's nice to see someone else from around the UK ^^ I'm from NI myself. Since I'm Irish we tend to call mermaids/mermen, Merrows. But I do adore Selkies, I used to hang about with the seals at our village harbour actually.
