Hello everyone!

I am new to the mermaid community, though I've been lurking around this site for over a year now. I joined because I'm going to be making a new tail soon, this time out of neoprene instead of spandex, and I know I'll have some questions to ask at some point. My dream is to eventually become a professional mermaid, though as I am a young teen right now, that's a long way off.
I may seem a bit quiet, as I am not an extrovert and online communication does not come naturally to me, but even if a barely ever post know that I'm still here.

Well, I can't think of much else to say, thank you for taking the time to read this!

Hi Blue! I'm new too. And I'm going to make a neoprene tail too! I'm just nervous that my sewing machine won't be able to handle it... So we'll be experiencing that adventure together! I have a silicone tail, but I didn't make it. So this will be my first homemade tail :) I'll be adding sequins to it once I get the base done.

I'm nervous about the sewing machine thing too! My machine can be a little finicky, but I think I can make it work. I'm glad I won't be the only one going through making a neoprene tail for the first time! This is my second tail, and though I've only had the first one for a year, I'm outgrowing it and can barely pull it over my hips. I was actually thinking about adding sequins to mine too, but I backed out because of cost and time.

Yea, same I thing I have a Singer sewing machine and I'm not sure how strong it would be either

If it comes to it, I'll hand sew. It would take a while, but I could probably do if I have to.

Welcome blue!
I think like me you'll find that mermaiding gives you a great deal of confidence you kind of grow with your tail. ;)
It's great that you're being brave and putting yourself out there. I was shy and a lurker for a long time too.

Thank you! I'm honestly a bit surprised at such a warm welcome from everyone, and it makes me already feel glad I joined! I'm excited to start my next tail, and this time I'll have a place to ask any questions I have!

Welcome, Blue! This is a great community for folks who are a bit more on the shy side. We're all in this together.

Just know that we're glad to have you here!

Welcome! You might want to also consider checking if there are any groups for mermaiding in your area. Hanging out with other merfolk in person might make you feel more comfortable, and they might be able to help you with your tail project. If you're not feeling up to hanging out with strangers that's fine too. Don't feel pressured.

I definitely will! Though I doubt there is one, it won't hurt to look. And if there isn't I could always get a few friends into mermaiding and start a mer group with them. :)

My Brother sewing machine is finnicky too. When I was sewing my tail, which is made from spandex, I discovered that I needed a particular needle type and size, then had to mess around with the tension and stitvh settings before I got the right results. My advice, do research on how to sew with a particular material and if you need a certain needle before you sew. And then do a test piece with a bit of scrap! Anyway Nice to meet you and I look forward to seeing what you make:)

I did a bit of research and am considering hand sewing it instead. It would take a while and my hands would get sore, but I won't have to worry about my machine. I would sew it on my sewing machine, but I don't have a lot of experience with sewing machines and I know how to hand sew really well. :)

After sewing use lotion and massage your hands it will prevent cramps for not being as painful
