My TOTALLY biased, hyper-enthusiastic impression of the Sun Tails NuNui (adult) monofin:
INCREDIBLE.
I had arranged clearance with the aquatics director at a local pool, giving the basic dimensions of the fin. He took one look at it, said it was "Cool" and said - go check it out, use this lane. (Lap swimming)
Mind you, I haven't done any serious swimming (other than horsing around in someone's pool) for nearly 25 years.
Put the monofin on poolside, sat with legs and fin in water to get an initial feel for the resistance and motion. 4 minutes later, I'm swimming across the pool with the fin (dolphin kick) and breast stroke. No thrashing around. No splashing around. Smooth, fluidic hydro-propulsion. This is my FIRST time attempting the dolphin kick too. WOW! Did laps on my back, using JUST the fin and kick - smooth and slow - amazingly, not all that strenuous. The breast-stroke took far more energy.
The fin held on like a dog on your leg (sorry...) yet, I tried kicking it off as emergency training, and it did. Wham. Off.
And NO heel-rubbing or such due to the lack of a heel strap... NICE.
Once my shoulder muscles stop griping, time to go back. This is addicting...
