Hi fellow mers,

I'm looking for ideas you might have. Many are unemployed, from what I hear, but what makes my situation difficult is that my mom is elderly and suffered a fall some years ago. She can get around the house and has walked down the street, however she has depended on me.

I can't go off to another city --- as much as I'd love to go. There are two book projects I'm going through and a screenplay. It won't pay anything, though, unless they're published down the road. Fortunately, I don't own a car, so it doesn't cut into my savings, but this is limiting, too.

That's why I took time today checking online businesses... possibilities for setting up a dating site... I am just out of ideas. I've signed up with temp agencies, but they consistently don't have work for me. Like a shark, ha ha, I've gone through learning the tools and utilizing LinkedIn.

Hi Dolphin, your post reminds me of myself until very recently -- I'm also a nearly full-time caregiver for a loved one and while I can't give details, we still have to take things one day at a time.

I have mixed feelings about online businesses as a source of income. On the one hand, if you help solve a serious problem you can potentially make a lot as a coach and blogger, and work your way up to memberships and online courses.

On the other, it needs significant financial investment to get the right services -- such as web hosting, payment gateways and other things, to say nothing of putting out great content week on week. Very few businesses make even a dollar in their first few months.

I don't know your situation so I can't say if it'll work for you, but I know where you can find out -- Ramit Sethi's site at www.growthlab.com. It's hands-down the best site to learn how (and if) to start an OB, and they have amazing free content to get you started on the right foot.

I really hope this helps and things look up for you. All the best!

It doesn't seem great, but there are some companies that offer at-home positions for jobs. I know for a fact that at least U-Haul does it with call center (as terrible as call center jobs are), and depending on minimum wage in your area, it could be fairly decent. I hope things work out well in the future!
