MERMAID IN NEED OF HELP from other professional Mers out there!
So I just cut the extra length (I had my tail maker give me some extra length at the top of my tail so I could make sure that it came up high enough) off of my silicone tail and NOW I HAVE A GAP around my butt when seated!
However (before everyone starts yelling at me)
I had to fold the tail down so it didn't come up past my chest. So I'm in a "damned if I do...damned if I don't" situation.
I have a wrap to wear to all my events this week so I got it covered! 😂 (see what I did there?!)
Also, I have smooth on dragon skin silicone and I also have silpoxy on hand.
So....question is...how to possibly make the waist (which is still pretty high) smaller to get rid of that gap when I am seated.
Any advice?
Sincerely,
Gap Butted Mermaid

Check into waist tailoring techniques for clothing pieces, like skirts. Cut at scale lines as best you can. Thin the sections you're going to Silpoxy together, so there isn't a bulge when they're fused?

I had a similar issue with my tail, in that I had to trim a good 5-6 inches off, but mine didn't gap or anything near the butt. Before you do ANYTHING to your tail, use the pieces you cut off as a test to see if the Silicon is still viable to hold/bond with silpoxy. Check with maybe MerNation and-or Corradion/The Hawaiian Merman on the ideas above. I've not done full tail creation and the tail doctoring i did on my last tail was kind of a mercy patch-up with a plastic thread called gimp. I punched holes in the silicon layers with a leather punch and then used a yarn needle to sew the thing shut along the ripped and cut lines. With clear thread, it wasn't extremely visible, but made the thing work pretty well and what did show kinda just looked like "scarring from a boat accident".

Hope this, and anything MerNation or Hawaiian Merman can tell you, helped(helps).
