Hello everyone! I just signed up for this site yesterday and have been on it ever since! So cool to see a community for mermaids and mermen! I got my first tail, a finfun, in early June and ordered a second right after! I try to swim as much as possible, but I live in Kentucky and there are no bodies of water near me for swimming. Ive swam in hotel pools a bit, and I travel to Michigan often in the summer where I enjoy my tail in Lake Michigan! Ive had a hard time finding outdoor pools to let me swim in my tail. Does anyone have any advice for that? Every outdoor pool place I've called says my tail is a hazard and I cannot swim in it. Maybe a lap pool at the YMCA would let me? Anyway, I'm in aw of all things mermaid. I spend my evenings browsing through YouTube mermaid videos, looking at mermaids on social media and look for silicone tails used that I could possibly afford! I'd love to end up doing events such as children's bday parties, so I'm trying to gain knowledge on how that all works and this site has helped immensely! I'm a mom of a 9 year old boy, 31, and I homeschool my son bc of the amount we travel for my husbands job, so I do not have a ton of time to swim. Does anyone else here have a family and also mermaid or do events? I'd love to learn as much as possible about being a pro mermaid. I wish I could've gotten a tail a decade ago, I feel as tho I'm a bit late to the game. But it's been my dream and I'll do as much as possible to make it a reality every day. I'd love advice on how one goes about doing parties and advice on how to approach aquatic centers into letting me use my tail in their pools

Regarding tails and pools, most do ban the tail part. If the pool allows bi-fins or other during lap swimming (most do) you should be able to swim with the monofin itself. I asked ahead of time at my local pool, and the director took one look at the monofin and said, "Go check it out!" and put me into a lane... Another possibility is to check into any particular 'abandoned' times, where there aren't any other people in the pool, and politely ask. Also good idea to check in with the lifeguard staff, and possibly demonstrate your ability in water safety.

Welcome to the mernetwork. What works for me is to bring the monofin with you on the first swim. On the 2nd swim, have a friend with you and ask the lifeguard if it alright to use the fabric that goes with the monofin so your friend can see you swim with it in the water. As an adult, you will rarely get a no.

Depends on the pool facility rules.
