My fabric(swim fabric) tail is nearly done however I haven't painted the scales or the fluke or anything yet but I finished all of the sewing and all the other work. I don't feel like I can wait any longer I want to go swimming with my friends today in Altoona lake and try it out but I'm worried that the lake water will make it so that I can't paint it afterwards.
What do you think should I swim or should I wait?

If I were you, I'd wait. It's better to be safe than sorry. Although I have no idea if it will for sure prevent you from painting or not though.

I have several swim fabric tails!
I didn't paint my Fin Fun till I had already used it once. Just let it dry after swimming, and it'll be fine to paint!
I definitely know the excitement!
As always, let us see the final product! :P

It should be fine once it's dry, I'd advise you to wash it in clean water after the swim just to be sure but i think it will be completely fine.

Thanks for the tips mers. I decided to wait. My tail is really nice and very realistic which we know is difficult to achieve for a fabric tail. I've come too far and invested too much into this tail ($200) to ruin it now. My main concern is the Georgia red clay which is notorious for staining stuff.

My friends and I still had a blast just using our monofins. Here are my two friends.
