Making Tail For A Friend.

So yeah I had to quit my job because the manager had it out for me! This In .turn paralyzed my personal tail making as I was in hunter gatherer mode for essential materials and tools now without income I can't and savings will likely go to other mundane things like food and bills for now...


Well on with it decided to make my friend a tail free of charge except the cost for materials. This will be a hybrid caulk tail with a bit more detailed things like fins and scales. Pics coming soon...

Thanks those are some tests figuring out how much pigments is good for what colors and whatnot. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170917/295a1d8030938dfac0241c1517728e74.jpg also made a pearl one and a red note the red and lue are a mix of acrylic paint and silicone the rest at pearl ex pigment thus the others have a shine that those dont.

I used a plastic sheet over the pre carved lines with a needle tool I went over them over the plastic until the space between the carved lines was rounded instead of flat making it look more natural. When making your fluke, I was going to tell you to sculpt it a tiny bit wider around the foot pocket area because you have to compensate for it not being a flat surface and for it it go around something. It looks like it will be hard to sandwich together unless you really stretched the silicone over it and then adhere it together. Good luck! It's all looking great!

I made it bigger on the sides but it is cutting it close to not being able to go around the monofin, it fits but barely lol. Didn't want to see someone go through the same mistake and lose time and money!!! <3

Yes like sister BonBon said the previous fluke sculpt was initially drawn on to of the monofin outline so this caused or would have caused the cast to Beto not be able to close on the sides cause the width was exact to the fin but the fin is not perfectly flat so the sculpt was short on wide ness this I restarted it and knowing me I would never repeat something if it didn’t work to begin with so my philosophy says evolution is only option.

Thanks Hannah indeed it will be even better I’m working on it on and off as I make a gigant individual scale mold cause having small molds with few scales is taking too long to cast fast each scale so more at once is better also making the other half to my pectoral sons of by tomorrow the pectoral will have both halves together. Yes the glass I used to mold the massive 120 scale mold was originally a table glass that I picket up on my way home cause it looked like a good sculpting surface, and yes I had to sculpt all those scales cause castin 19 at a time every 24 hours is way too tome consuming so casting 120 at a time should speed things up a bit

No friction does the job and I prefer harder clay cause too soft is more easy to make indents that I am trying to sculpt out

Yeah the glass table top was the best idea I’ve had lol I found a rectangular one pretty long perfect for a scale sheet.
