So long story short, I decided I wanted to make a silicone tail myself, but then decided it was too much money and I didn't want to fail and waste a thousand dollars. So, I will be buying one professionally made.
I wanted to create a unique looking tail but make it look beautiful. If that makes any sense at all. The colors are completely different than my original design for my tail before.
Colors: Teal, indigo blue, light purple (or just plain white and purple)
Possible tailmaker(s): Mernation; MerrowFins; Mertailor
But I'm overwhelmed with all of the choices for flukes and where I should place colors, and if the tail will fit. This is my first tail, and I don't want to end up with something I won't like.
Anyone else have or had these problems/worries?

I think it's completely normal to worry before getting your first tail, or any expensive tail for that matter even if you already have one. It's a lot of money on the line, we have the image of our dream tail in our minds, and of course we want our expectations to become reality. That said, take a look at your tail design and see how it matches up with each tail maker's styles--look through each artist's work for inspiration. If you're finding you're impressed/inspired by a specific tail maker's work, that's probably going to be your ticket. After that, just confirm in reviews that the work is consistent/reliable.
The rest will come down to you. Getting your design on paper properly is what is going to make your tail come to life. The more specific you are in what you want, the better the tail maker can make that come to life. Saying "I want spots" could land you in a position where the tail maker makes them larger than you imagined, or too many, etc. As I mentioned before, look at other tails for inspiration. Save images of those you like, and have a look at them later. Continue to whittle down the list until you have a certain look/aesthetic you're going for/most in love with. Then you can reference their previous work to articulate exactly what techniques you want them to use/how you're envisioning it.
You also need to be EXTREMELY careful in measuring yourself. Look up threads on ho to do this properly. Many times ill fitting tails are a result of sketchy measuring. Do consult the thread and your tail maker on how best to measure for your tail.

Ok, that sounds good. Thanks for your help. And on the measuring part I was going to do a dummy, and then mark every two inches and measure around so I'd have an even surer custom fit, plus send in the dummy.

The dummy method seems the most reliable. Hope it all works out for you!
