how to position camera in pool?

I've had this underwater bag i've used for about 2-4 months and i've loved it, i've filmed me in my tail at pools and i've had a problem, the camera is always wiggling and wobbling around in the water, I can't get a good shot xD my phone is in the bag, any idea's on how to stop the shaking?

In pools in austria there is s small step which is large enough to put my TG-4 on it. However this may not work with those bags. You can also try to shoot from the ground to the surface.

I literally just rubber band my Gopro to a flat smooth river rock in the pool. It works great, no shaking even when you swim right over it ;)

A mermaid in my pod built a counterweight for her camera, I use a phone bag for mine since I broke the casing but it needs to be weighed down and tacked to the pool edge somehow or else it floats to the surface or bobs in the water, so if you're using a waterproof phone pouch I would try weighing it down with something to keep it from floating around and making a counterweight to keep it in one place.

A while back I acquired a bowflex style weight system that didn't work. I used a 5 pound weight piece off it and it's fantastic haha

One of my favourite tricks is to get a selfie stick! With the phone mount you can attach it to a suction cup mount and stick to any smooth surface or use it as a makeshift tripod on shelves or the bottom of the pool.
Another hack I have is to use the whole stick and if it has a wrist strap, add a carribeaner. With that goofy setup, I have attached my camera to lane ropes for some interesting shots OR clipped it into lane rope hooks and gotten mostly still shots from the edge of the pool.

I always take either my phone (in a lifeproof case) or my gopro and tie it to the steps of a ladder in the pool. It works great for keeping the camera steady and it always captures a wide frame big enough for me to be fully seen in.

What do you use to hold a go pro in place when the walls of the pool are not smooth enough for the suction cup and there aren't any steps to place them on? (I'm using the lap pool)

I've hung my GoPro upside down from the lane line before. You have to be careful not to disturb too much water around the camera or else you're just gonna get wobbly footage. It's not ideal but it is doable.

Another option is to attach a wide base to it and put it at the bottom of the pool. If you still have that square base it was mounted on in the box, it'll work perfectly. If not, I'm sure you could DIY one. I'd try to avoid tripods because if it gets hit with one little movement of water, the camera usually goes toppling over.

Normally I'll either attatch it to a rope or put it right on the bottom. Another thing you can do is find a lane rope clip thats empty and hook it into there. But with that, you also need to sneak through the water as to not whoosh the camera out of place

What type of GoPro is it? I know most GoPros can be taken down to at least 40 meters (131 feet), or at least that's what the instruction manual with my GoPro said and it's pretty old (Hero 2). And since the pool is so deep, a tripod might actually work since there isn't much movement in water that deep. I would still try to weigh the tripod down to give it better stability. You might be able to DIY something together by taking an exercise weight and some string and tie it to the bottom of the tripod. The more weight you have on it, the more stability you'll have.

I use an old pair of goggle bungee straps to tie my camera down. The elasticity really helps make sure it's secure. I'm sure you could do it with anything stretchy though.

I've used both my phone in a lifeproof case and my gopro. It works perfectly fine for them as long as I keep the cord out of the shot of the lens.

Do you secure it on the actual step of the ladder or the side pole? And do you set it up vertically or horizontally? Honestly I tied a string to it and let the phone hang and I taped the string at the side of the pool lol, not too effective but it worked kinda.

I strap it to the steps of the ladder. Sometimes I slide it so it's balanced against the side pole of the ladder too but it's always sitting against the actual ladder step.
