Hi all, I'm in the process of planning my next tail. I'll be making it myself with a single scale method. I'm debating using the same mono in my current tail (finis trainer) or getting a hydra because i like how the hydra swims and it's lighter. My concern is longevity and finished look of the tail over the foot pockets. Who has done a tail with a hydra? How has it turned out?... is the hydra holding up to use?

I have yet to really make a tail just yet...matter of fact, this is my first comment in well over a year. I have one myself, and as it is a rather large monofin. It is gonna take a lot of latex/silicone to cover this fluke. My only problem I have had with it so far is that the foot pockets do not see large enough for me, and I have the largest one. I did make a latex fluke for it, and it seems to have held up nicely for some time. I do not have any photos, but I also do think it depends on the materials used. Aside from the foot pockets, the monofin itself has been pretty awesome!

I have triton (the kid-size of the hydra) in my fabric and my silicone tails and they work very well with both. :)

I have a Hydra in my latex and my sequin tail (same monofin, it just goes between both tails). It has held up very well so far, to more than three years of heavy use and abuse. The only trouble it's given me is this year both ankle straps failed due to age and wear, but fortunately that's a part you can order a replacement for easily.

I also think it gives my fluke a wonderful shape (the tail in my signature has a Hydra)

I have a hydra monofin in my tail. I find it does have really good propulsion even though mine had been cut and covered in neoprene and caulking.
While I do like it and I'm pretty happy with it, i do have a couple of qualms. My monofin actually started cracking a little bit so I had to reinforce it by bolting a piece of the off cut to the footpocket. I've also had some issues with parts of the ankle straps breaking but that's not a huge deal either. Because my tail is only silicone coated fabric it's quite thin and you can see the ankle strap buckles through it. I'm going to make some ankle fins to make it less obvious.

Here's some photos of my monofin and tail for reference :)

I adore the hydra that's in my silicone tail. It excels at swimming in the sea.
