The average answer is nothing because the other love one is supported their mermaid gig. Otherwise I’m going to guess half. I haven’t been hired before so please don’t rely on my answer.

Iv discussed it with mine and agreed on 1/3 profits after transportation is taken out however discuss with yours in particular about how much responsibility they are taking on mine wants nothing to do with kids for the most part and will only focus on me however if she wanted to help entertain the kids i would pay her more for taking that load off

I pay my merwranglers the same as my mermaids, they work just as hard and have a lot of responsibilities. Annnd I know plenty of mermaids who employ their husband or boyfriend as a merwrangler and pay them ;) I always have and so have the girls on my team.

I think that is fair.
That would be ideal.... But I am single... I broke up with my photoshop-ing, fast driving, super strong, great with kids, Mr Perfect for the job 6 months ago... :(
So I am trying to figure out how I can do this on my own until someone comes along to fill the merwrangler hole in my heart.
I have only done 2 dry gigs but I really don't like being alone and not able to move.

When working events I pay the performer and the merwangler about 25% of whatever the gig paid and of course if any tips were earned they are kept by those working the event.

Interview someone the same way you would any other job. Create a description, and charge accordingly so you can pay them. When I talk with clients I always explain that hiring 1 mermaid = hiring one mandatory assistant. I've also hired 3 merwranglers and am looking at adding a 4th.
Pay is usually a certain amount, let's say I have 2 mermaids and an assistant doing a gig for a total of $500 for an hour. I might pay each person $100 for that hour, then I have $200 left, part goes to insurance, part to materials, and the rest back to the business for future costs/profit. (this is just a number I pulled from the air, not saying you should charge $500 an hour)

From my Finacial Experience, this makes sense. What you charge needs to cover the cost of doing business, and a part of that cost is paying your employees well. The ideal I can think of is charging a fair price for your services. The two ways you can make the money is charging more or getting more gigs. Usually, the trick comes from finding a balance between the two.

My experience is still limited as I am still in school. However, I am still fairly confident in what I am saying. I do work in retail which does involve exposure to this in practice.

I forgot to mention, Great news! I got the job!
They company I was interviewing with suggested ~$200 per hour and less for additonal hours after that. Does that sound reasonable? $100 for me $100 for the merwrangler plus their commission.
They are a fairly large company so it would be easy to have one of the other staff members be the merwrangler. They were even willing to discuss getting a tank later on if things take off.
I am still not comfortable with the idea of someone I don't know carrying me but I guess I am just going to have to get over it.
I will be able to work indepently as well, for those gigs it is just going to be my dad lugging me around. Good thing he started working out [emoji14]
