I don't know what to do with my friends who think what we do is crazy. For those of us who struggle with our mental health, this entire life gives us meaning and a sense of self esteem and people don't see that. Why are there too many judgmental people in the world? They're making it harder and harder for me to express myself, especially online. Does anyone have any advice on dealing with people who are just so close minded? people who are so eager to put you down?

Don’t value the opinion of little shrimp. The right people will accept who you are and what you do. Close minded people often won’t change their mind, its best to leave it as you have your opinion and I have mine.

I have found that what is one person's normal is another's crazy. For example, right now it's football season and I get to hear about how the Cowboys are doing from a man with a tattoo of their logo. In my mind that's crazy. (And no it's not a slight against football fans.)

Everything I was going to say was already said by Mermaid_Izzy. That advice she just gave is spot on.

Don't mind those people. But if this is something that bothers and affects you a lot then you might need to consult someone who can help you handle your emotions. As far as I know there is a specialist who addresses issues like this...emotions, stress, mental fatigue. Please don't get me wrong. I just sense that you are very much affected that may lead to something worse.

Get this, my childhood friend forwarded me a link about counseling websites (https://www.betterhelp.com/advice/counseling/how-counseling-websites-differ-from-traditional-therapy/). Is she for real???? Why can't they get me!!!?? I'm so frustrated right now.

I’d be frustrated to over that. It takes some people time to understand.

My work colleagues are looking at me funny too. Some of them are laughing at me and calling me "Ariel". I'm not sure if I should be happy with that or not.

They're crazy for buying those $30 lipsticks just because it was Rihanna's or Kim Kardashian's. Geez!

I know the feeling! No idea why people buy soccer players' jerseys, but that's just me.

That said, perhaps your mental health struggles are a separate issue from your mermaid life, and a good therapist can help you with the former without judging you for the latter.

Never mind your colleagues -- as Izzy said, let them laugh as they're not going to change their minds.

Or simply say, "Even better! Ariel needed to trade her voice for legs, but I get mine any time I want!"
