Hello merfolk!

So, I'll get right to the point. I am a mer with crap knees, and I'm not sure how o should go about diving into mermaiding as I don't want to make my knees worse. What's wrong with my knees you ask? If I'm standing straight in front of you with tights or leggings on you can see that my knees go inward quite a bit. And when I walk, trot, or run my knees will come in even more. This is what's causing my knee pain. With the help of a friend I've been able to minimize pain by walking on the outer edge of my feet a little more and pushing my knees out. However, I'm uncertain how to make sure my knees don't go in while mermaiding. I was thinking of maybe something I could put in my tail between my knees to keep them from going inward but I'm not sure how to do that. Ideas?
Also I'm thinking about what monofin would be best in order to not put too much pressure on my knees. Suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank y'all for your time!

When using a monofin, I have my feet side by side almost touching, or in fact touching. What happens when you put your feet together like that? Also, I find my legs are pressed together. I cannot put my knees any closer together even if I push them in, they are already pressed together.

You could get a cheap monofin and try swimming, very slowly and carefully. You can also talk to your doctor.

I have this problem as well! I don't think mine is as severe, maybe get a monofin with wider foot-pockets, that way you can point your feet outwards a bit and help alleviate that pain?

My knees are similar. It’s like “knocking knee syndrome” or something my doctor and my dad called it. They are not sure if I just didn’t learn how to walk correctly when I was young or if it’s my scoliosis causing an imbalance.

Anyways it doesn’t normally effect my swimming and most of the time in both my tails my legs touch all the way down. I would say if it bothers you, you could always try to put something between your knees maybe a piece of folded up cloth, foam or even silicone.

I guess a better question is what type of tail/monofins have you tried or does swimming in general cause you pain?
