Hi everyone! I’m Desirae, (Rae for short) and I’m relatively new here terms of posting but I’ve been a long time lurker for at least five years? I’m super excited to by finally starting my journey to fins! I’ve wanted to be a mermaid for as long as I can remember and after years of self doubt I have found the courage to make my first tail :)

The tail construction wise will basically be a custom mythic (neoprene body with and silicone fluke and individually sewn on Finfolk resin scales)

I am currently drawing my inspiration from Steph Lew’s Various mermaid art;

The challenge of the tail will be the translucence I hope to make the fluke while concurrently concealing the monofin. If anyone knows of a thread where someone has attempted a transluscent tail please link it!

i have already purchased about 200 Finfolk scales just to test colors and so far I am in love! They are so much more vibrant and shiny in person than I expected! The colors I purchased are Seafoam, Pearl, Mint and Artic Blue :)

(I’m having trouble inserting the pictures of the scales so I will edit this later to include them).

I’m open to any tips, suggestions or feedback so please feel free to follow me on this journey :)

PearlieMae has a partially translucent fluke, but I am not sure if it’s on any thread. I know she made her own monofin.

I think I have seen another tail company a while back that made one and I think they used a clear plastic for a monofin.

I think that the clear plastic one might have been mermaid creations, and their's was really, really dangerous and low quality. Mertailor's spellbound has a translucent fluke thanks to their lack of monofin. I'm not sure if you could do that though...
