Failed hybrid tail

Hi, I haven't formally introduced myself on here, but i posted to ask some advice about my silicone hybrid tail. Sorry if I posted in the wrong spot, or if this question has already been answered. So I made my old fabric tail into a hybrid using 100% silicone aquarium caulk, but I made the mistake of not using a body form, so it didn't fit me. I can't post pictures from my phone, but when I squeezed it on all of the silicone on the sides split and there are several cracks. Does anybody think it's salvageable, or should I start from scratch?

Make yourself a duct tape dummy and put the tail on it then using the same silicone, fill in the split areas. You don't say if you made raised scales or more of a smooth sculpted scale design or just smooth. At any rate, it should be salvageable
