Hello! I'm Fe from the North Island of New Zealand! While Fe is my mer name I also go by Andy or Abby. :) Feel free to call me by any of those names.
I'm usually a very shy person, so I may or may not end up lurking most of the time, but I'll try my best to take part in at least a few things!

When I was young I was a real water baby, quick to jump in and hard to drag out, with a love for fantasy that's still going strong today. Of course the idea of mermaids was wonderful to me and they managed to easily secure a place in my heart alongside dragons, fae, and a whole host of other amazing creatures. Unfortunately, around five years ago, for no real reason that I can think of, I started becoming more and more reluctant to get into the water. It even got to the point where I'd only swim a few times in the whole year instead of several times in a single week. But in the past few months I've been really wanting to swim again and I've begun to rekindle my love of being underwater.

I discovered mermaiding because of a thought I had while swimming. I wanted to relive a bit of my childhood love for mers when I had a thought that someone, somewhere, must have discovered a more efficient, beautiful way of swimming like a mermaid than simply using your legs. So I scoured the internet, found my answer, and here I am. :D
I haven't got my fins yet, but hopefully they'll arrive soon! :cheerleader: :mermaid kiss:

Welcome! My name is also Abby! Were you a swimmer growing up or did you just enjoy being in the water?

Hi Abby! I was a swimmer not entirely by choice, I did enjoy it and being in the water, I just enjoyed it less as I became more reluctant. All my schools had compolsery swimming lessons and comps, but I never got anywhere serious with it.

Ohhhh I see what you mean. My sister and I went through something similar. My dad signed us both for competitive swimming. I loved it but she absolutely hated it. I felt really bad for her seeing her enjoyment of swimming deteriorate every time we had to go to practice. Now she wants to get back into it so she can join me in mermaiding.

Hi there! Glad to see another new fantasy buff amongst us! I love mythical creatures. They're my favorite thing to write about.

And don't worry about being shy! In a lot of ways, I think we're all a least a little shy and nervous at first. Especially when it comes to new things. Hopefully you find yourself in a comfortable space here! <3
