Um.. Hello everyone. My (temporary) name is Rae, and I'm new to the mer community. I have to admit that I'm a little (more like a lot) scared. All my life I was taught that one day I would have to grow up and become more serious, so by putting myself out here in this community I am going against everything I was taught to believe. I will be 19 next month and currently have 3 tattoos, each with a different meaning behind them. I don't often see mer-people with tattoos and it concerns me that I will not be able to make a career out of my passion due to the fact that I have them. I guess I need a little advice....

Welcome, Rae! Don't worry, you'll find lots of encouragement here. I'm sure you'll also see many of us have 'grown up' yet see no problem being merfolk -- if it's a part of who you are, there's nothing to stop you from taking the plunge eventually :)
Welcome to the MerNetwork :)

Welcome! There's no need to worry! I'm 21 and have a career in mermaiding. I've even seen other mers with tattoos be successful mermaids!

- Mermaid Rae if it is your passion then there would be nothing stopping you from doing what you love. I haven been a mer for very long but I've seen photos of other mers with tattoos. Nothing wrong with that. I love tattoos (even bough I have none lol) because it's interesting to learn the meaning behind the tattoo. It tells a unique story about the person. You could probably use that as part of your mersona. And I'm glad you put yourself out there :) welcome

Welcome to the community! I graduated college at the end of last year, and it has been hard adjusting to having a Monday-Friday job. I've struggled with having to grow up, but for me holding on to more creative and exciting things, like mermaiding, keeps me going and gives me purpose that my job fails to provide. Don't feel like you have to give up creativity, fantasy, etc just because you are getting older. :)

Welcome to the community! Always thrilled to have another mer! I have the same concern about tattoos, I don't have any yet though. I decided to put most of them out of sight, but I have seen a fair share of tatted mers. I think it's about the attitude and general look of the mer, I've never seen tats look bad on a mer.

Thank you all for your kind words. It really helps a lot to get so much positive feedback about this sort of thing when I'm used to people brushing it off as "childish" or "ridiculous." I've decided to be more open about my passion and if people have anything negative to say I'll just brush it off like they did to me lol.
