I am a newbie from NJ. I wanted to say that I am a lifeguard and swim instructor at a YMCA, and we are implementing a new mermaiding class. Does anyone have any tips for me that I can tell the kids to make it easier to learn?

I'm no teacher, but from past experience teaching kids how to use fins, saying to point the toes like a ballerina could help a lot if the kid isn't too familiar in working with fins. I do want to get myself certified to encourage the local YMCA (Maine) to allow the use of mermaid tails as I otherwise have an awkward time talking with them.

Where in NJ? That's awesome! The YMCA near me wouldn't let me swim. But seeing that the one near to you is starting mermaid classes, maybe there is still hope yet.
