Mermaid Mimi's tail

Hey everyone! So as you may remember, and for those who don't, I committed to giving my old mertailor tail away when I was able to get my new Raven one. Why? Because mainly, I achieved BOTH tails through fundraising and hardwork/donations from others besides just myself. I felt, it wasn't right to sell it, and if it wasn't for people showing me a kindness I wouldn't be a mer. So, Mimi came and got the tail before my trip.

She totally re-painted the tail, AND HERE SHE IS SWIMMING IN FREEZING OCEAN WATER I AM TALKING ACTUAL ICE WATER

She did such an amazing job refurbishing it. it still has the issues I was experiencing with the fluke etc, but she's working around it. it's a little short for her so she's compensating with a pretty belt for the time being. I had been asked to do a birthday party while I was away, and since I couldnt I suggested Mimi. I was thrilled to hear they hired her and the party was a blast.

it just didnt feel right selling it honestly. When i first saw Mimi I got nervous thinking, ahh competition! But then I took a moment and thought, that's not fair to her. Canada is a big place, there's no reason why we can't work together. I think giving her my tail also helped me commit to that mentality :)

Wow. She did an EXCELLENT paint job on it! Looks lovely! And YES, Raina - that's it exactly! The world is so huge there is PLENTY of work for people if they know how to go about it, so kudos to you for realizing that and helping out another local mer. I have a feeling Mermaiding can be sort of like Mary Kay. You can have an endless supply of consultants selling the same thing but they all know different people and find different jobs with out stepping on each others income.

She makes it work great, but it wont do for long...
Our city stopped importing CREATEX. Which is what this tail was painted with. She bought all the discounted stuff before it went out of stock. She went for a more mosaic look on the tail- it helps when dealing with the constant paint cracks, flakes, and bonding issues. Makes it all look intentional. But it still doesnt fit her well enough (hence the body suit) Im hoping to do enough gigs with her or send enough her way that she can either afford the materials to make her own, or buy another new. For now tho, she's totally rocking it and her own mermaid persona. So proud.

I love the scale-by-scale paint job rather than an overall airbrushed fade. It makes it look like a
snake almost. AMAZING JOB!! :'D

If I ever get an old tail I want to recycle it like that! Same with if I ever give away an old tail of mine.


Also, createx paint isn't hard to find. She could always just get it off ebay or amazon :')
Pearls has it as well as TCP Global.
I use acrylic paint and they work just fine for me o.O

it is EXTREMELY hard to get in our city. In fact, you cant get it. Even in stores that carry it in the US, it's not carried here. Previously, when no one carried it, I had to order the smallest bottle online. With SH + conversion of currency it cost 35$!!!!!!!!!!! for the smallest bottle! (that whole fun time is chronicled on yuku)Then, finally, our michaels store started carrying it, and now it's gone. It was there maybe a year. Believe me, we have gone everywhere, contacted the art college, tried to convince some stores to ship it in for us. You can't get it. At least not where we are. Because this tail was made with alex plus and createx, createx is the only paint we've been able to get to stick to it, but even then because the fake neoprene underneath is so bad and textured like a burlap sack it peels off.

She's making the best of it, but it's a temporary tail til we can get her something awesome and amazing!

Either you're getting some crazy nice paint or you overpaid by WAY too much.

They're an airbrush company and they sell all sorts of createx paints. For fairly cheap as well. At least I'm thinking airbrush paints??
Not sure how much the auto paints cost but if you're going down that route, you may as well use hobby paint :')

The shipping to Canada is $27, but perhaps it's because of the "estimated delivery"? No idea, but TCP Global is a pretty nice
company. I've called them up several times and they've always been very versatile with things.
I also always ship things to Canada and the rate for something of that size wouldn't be over $7 so it's odd to me that they'd be
charging so outrageously. They're probably going with FedEx or something.

Either way, if none of the above works, I'd be more than happy to purchase the colors she wants and ship them over to you guys.
I believe there's a few stores around my house that has createx and there's also the online option for me with relatively low costs.

Hey folks, I wanted to show you the neat updates Mimi has made to this tail. Mimi has my old mertailor tail. It is literally full of holes and falling apart. The neoprin stretched to the point it couldnt be repaired, and alex plus wont bond to it anymore. The tail must be 5 years old now and she's remade it at least a dozen times. Recently she took strips of denim and painted them with createx and turned them into a fringe and heel fins to help patch the tail and cover trouble spots. The results REALLY worked. It looks super cool. We're hoping to get a wee bit longer out of the tail until my sequin one is done and then she can have that til we have enough to get her a silicone.

Mimi is over 6ft, and the tail doesn't cover her bum all the way, so she wears all this fun flowy stuff. Also, her poor feet are too big for the monofin, she does ALL these tricks with her heels out!
