Hi everyone,
This is a topic that has been weighing on my mind a lot. As a whole, I see the mer community as a bunch of creative, unique people. I like to think that because of this, many of you might have a job that allows you to be creative or feel fulfilled and not like you are wasting your precious time.
I will save you the boring details but I recently put in my two weeks at my job. The job I will be leaving is my first real job that I got right after college. I have been there a little over a year now. It has really dragged me down mentally and somewhat physically and I am flooded with all sorts of thoughts. Will I ever find something that makes me happy? Do I have enough talent and drive? What do I even want to do?
I was curious though, what is your job and do you enjoy it? Or what is your dream job?
Also, do you happen to have any advise on finding a job that is right for you? In particular, one that feeds your creative soul?
If you don't really like your job, how do you cope with it? Do you plan to do really fun things on your weekends to give you something to look forward to? Do you try to do something fun after work each day?
I would really appreciate any responses! I have no idea what to do with my life so I would love to hear about how you are figuring out your own!

I am in a similar boat but I have no college degree. I work for Panera and Starbucks. It mentally and physically draining. And being looked over as if I am part of a non human machine. Or talked down to. I spend my free time with my boyfriend of 8 years witch is 50/50 stress levels. And I read and swim to try to relax. I am going to star a diet and exercise program to get healthy and get rid of stress lol also get into mermaid shape.
i don’t know what I want to do with my life either. Or even how to chose a path. I want to make enough money to comfortably support my self and have a little free time!
i know completely how you feel and seek the same advice!

I've worked full time off and on for 9 years as a mermaid. It's really hard because I have chronic illness and no insurance. So I have throughout the years taken on contract work in the educational field, or part time that gets me insurance.
Right now I decided to go back to work full time to help support some family members. I do instructional design and train pilots :) I love it.
It's hard to work full time but I have a team of 12 now so my business runs fairly smoothly. Having insurance and the extra income really helps.
I really like my job and have been applying the technical skills to my mer biz :)

Currently, I'm a student, but I already know what I want to do with my life. I want to be a Broadway actor.
I think it was easier for me to find out because I go to a school that is very intense academically, physically, artistically, basically in every way. When I found myself feeling horrible about my failure in everything, I thought: What is the one thing people praise me about? What is the one thing I enjoy doing in this horrible environment? What is the one thing that brings me happiness in my times of depression?
This was easier for me to see because I am in such a harsh environment that basically tells you that you are terrible at everything, so you're really forced to find your lane, what you're good at.
So, if you're trying to think about what you want to do, think about something you're good at, or something you enjoy doing. And think about the possible opportunities you could have to use that. There are people who are very smart in one subject, so they choose that for what to do, or people who are very talented at a certain art, and choose to do that.
I think the most important thing is to be happy with yourself and your life

I'm an art director/photographer and associate creative director, and I am a key member in new product development and marketing. I've been in the creative end of business my entire professional career, primarily publishing, the music and entertainment industries, and currently in the hobby industry. I'm also a tailmaker and inventor.
It's not glamorous, I work my ass off, oftentimes for people who don't appreciate just how difficult my jobs really are. But you do what you gotta do. I've had good jobs, hell, I've had GREAT jobs, and I've had jobs that nearly broke my spirit and my brain... I've owned my own businesses, I've been a corporate flunkie, and everything in between.
If I have any advice, it's work hard at what YOU want to do. Nothing is going to be handed to you. Everything comes with a cost, but YOU get to steer your destiny. Do the things that can make that happen...schooling or training...whatever it takes. Refuse to settle. Don't be a whiny bitch and cry 'why can't I have that life?'
90% of life is SHOWING UP. Are you willing to do what it takes to get what you want?
If not, then you're going to get pushed around until you die. No one regrets the things they could have done.
And yes, I am old enough to give this advice.

I want to get into aerospace engineering... of course I'm probably too stupid.
I would love to make a living off of horses alone, because horses are my true passion. But that industry won't pay up.
I'll probably be homeless in the woods working at Dairy Queen. ;)

I graduated from Cal Tech in 1977. Three months later I started working as an aeronautical engineer at a company started and run by friends of the family. I have been there for over 40 years. It is hard to imagine a place that would be better for me.

Uh-huh, and isn't that a great thing to tell a child who has been diagnosed with anxiety and depression, and is told they are stupid by their own parents... Maybe bother to get context before you tear someone up like that. Be encouraging, not sarcastic. Its not that hard.
Also, I love horses.... why would I get off the pity-pony? ;)

My first job ever was at Whole Foods Market and I worked there for 7 ½ years (didn’t go to college). There were days where I’d cry before going to work because the job stressed me out so much. I had that job for three reasons: The first being BILLS, the second was the great health insurance and the third was to fund my passion for art. Long story short, I pursued my passion for art as much as I physically could while working at that stable, not so fun job. Every free moment outside of work was spent creating, learning, growing, networking. It wasn’t easy. Because of my drive I was able to build an unplanned art portfolio which opened the door for my current job, one which I love so incredibly much I sometimes want to cry out of pure happiness. I’ve now been a concept artist at the Sony Bend Studio working on the game Days Gone for 5 years. This job is 100x more demanding than my last but I welcome the challenge (and lack of time off) with open arms.
I feel like I lucked out with this career path but honestly pursuing art while working a job that I HATED was a mental salvation and my ultimate success. 7 ½ years of “I hate this.. I need out. I don’t know what to do and I need to keep a job”. Art kept me sane through the stressful times at my first job and kept me driven as a person. Art won’t be everyone’s passion or salvation obviously but it’s important to find a way to do what you love, even if you’re only able to find 30 minutes a day to dedicate to it. Having a job, whatever it might be, is the highest priority and there are ways to multitask and have projects on the side that will further your potential career in that field. Studying can be considered a project. Knitting is a project. Yoga is a project. Mermaiding can be a project. Anything that you’re passionate about can be a project. Projects = experience! Experience = opportunity.
Like right now my next endeavor is to make mermaid tails. I work 6, sometimes 7 days a week and have like an hour a day to dedicate to the mermaid craft. I make every minute count. I listen to Youtube videos and read up on anything even remotely related to the materials I'm using during my lunch breaks. How to paint, how to sculpt, how to make molds. I know all of this already but I can only get better with more exposure to the content. I have a few hours on Sunday to sculpt and test things. Job if first priority, Craft is second. Work hard and project harder! Haha. Find something you love and make it happen!! Its possible! All the resources are out there and more often than not, they're free (depending on what it is I guess..).

I decided when I graduated college that I wanted to focus on something in music or art since that is what my major and minor are in. After working in Hollywood as a makeup artist and portrait artist, I decided I wanted to move and try something different. A design opportunity brought me to Florida and eventually to South Florida where I started my company creating custom paintings, murals and faux finishes. But as any of my fellow artists will tell you, you can have a flurry of activity and then hit a dry spell. You have to hustle and get out there. Knowing there will always be lulls, I auditioned for some paid musical theater gigs which led to becoming a hired singer with a trio years ago. We perform for private parties and country clubs from Naples through Tampa with an agent that books our shows. I also kept my hands in the make-up field and have worked with CHANEL as their National Regional Makeup Artist for special events. Although the territory is large, it still offers me the freedom to sell my paintings at a couple galleries, take a few commissions here and there, and sing my heart out when we are booked.
So, I have been very fortunate that after all these years I am working in fields that I love and am passionate about. Sometimes I had to prioritize which was more important to me at the time but at least I was using my talents and education. If I wasn't doing something fun and creative I'd want to hit the satin box!

Crybaby? No. Sarcastic and irritated? Sure. I'm not a ''crybaby'' when I'm not afraid to stand up for myself.
Considering that I had a nice winking face in my original post, maybe you should have taken the hint that I'm partially joking. There is such thing, you know. It was NONE of your business to reply to me, anyways. And whether you had the context or not, you don't have to be rude to anyone, mental issues or not... not everyone has the patience to listen to a million people calling you out.
Anyways, I'm done. No need to start an argument here.

Right now I’m at a retail store and have been there for almost 2 years. They’re looking to put me into management, but I’m not sure if it’s something I want. For now though, with the pay raise and full time, it’s what I need.
The problem with finding a “dream” job for me is that I have too many, haha. I’d like to go into fashion design (which is why I ended up in retail) but school is way too expensive and I’m way too indecisive.
I’d love to be an artist/graphic designer, a writer, a model, a computer programmer, a magazine editor...way too many things to nail down to one that I’ll spend years doing and thousands learning. One day I’ll decide. Hopefully.

My real life job is managing a warehouse for a juice cafe franchise in Canada. I started out here 2 years ago as just an order picker. Pretty boring and manly job for a mermaid to have, warehouse labor haha, however I actually do like it for the most part. I like being in charge and running the show. Of course I would much rather be a marine biologist or something like that but I don't think I'll ever afford university, and I wanted to be a fashion model when I was younger, but I was too short and now I am too old too, so its a life of physical labor in the warehouse for me.

My main human job is pretty soul sucking alot of the time. I work in the printing industry and over 5 to 6 departments for the shop mostly by myself and have for the past 2 1/2 years. I was hired as a receptionist after College ( I have a degree in Holistic medicine). Now my 40 hour work week often looks closer to 50 hours most weeks. But this job pays my bills and keeps a roof over our heads and food on our table most of the time. With the little time I get to myself I use to create content for my very small Patreon for fantasy costuming and cosplay modeling. And lastly there is my character entertainment business which I love but is still so small it is more of sink than a job outside of the many many hours of work I put it.
Its a hard balance, but I have always believed if you want something chase it and chase it hard because you get back what you put into something. I have many chronic health conditions that effect me physically and I may be an invisible desk clerk right now but with enough effort and managing of those conditions, time, resources, and my anxiety. My dreams are in reach.
Those are the thoughts that get me through the creativity draining, soul sucking, desk job that makes me cry several times a week, has me working so much overtime some weeks I don't even get to see my S/O or our two very sweet cats.

I work as a shoe slave. I work at Payless. *no, not all of the payless stores have closed.* I went to college at first for web design, (then they ended the program half way through me working through it) then for fine arts. I focused on metalsmithing and jewelry. That's my dream job is to be a professional jeweler. (I work mainly with silver and copper, but I have dabbled with gold). Mermaiding is also a big focus in my life. I incorporate a lot of mermaid themes into my jewelry work and art. I try to do at least one crafty thing a week to keep my sanity. Dealing with shoes and annoying customers all day is draining.

As much as I love swimming as a mer, my real passion has been and always will be in the aviation industry. As early as grade 3 I can remember loving airplanes and everything to do with them. However thanks to some skills I aquired through genes from my mom I also am very good with infomation technologies specifically records info. So after completing my tech certificate in aircraft structures I worked in that part of the industry for 8 months till layoffs from the 2008 recession. I was able to get work in my third passion in cooking. I did that for 2 summers at a bible camp till getting work back in the aviation industry in flight operations for private aircraft. Following that layoff I went back into oil/gas industry with data entry. I had in prior years work as a contractor in records management for a oil and gas company. So following all of this I now am happier then ever working on the ramp at my local international airport as a aircraft fueller. This summer will be 4 years there. I have everything I need, decent pay, benefits, a pension and am around planes all day. Also there is nothing like working in -30 C or -22 F outside with wind and snow. I say this and yes its cocky but working outside in Canada separates the men from the boys.

I work in a fast food restaurant cooking fries and cleaning up around the place, but when I leave school, I want to become a pilot because apart from my home in the sea as a mer, the sky is the place for me. :) I have loved aircraft since I was about 6 years old and I want to be a part of the aviation industry. Guess who's working towards getting their Private pilot's licence!? I've already flown a 152 trainer and flown a couple of gliders. I know I'm different from other girls because of my love of aviation and because of my differences, a lot of kids who were in my year though I was a weirdo and I didn't have a lot of friends. My best friend also wants to become a pilot and I'm the reason why he loves aviation! :) I do air cadets and it's been one of the best choices I've ever made because I get to be around other people my age who have similar interests to me!

Currently I work as a waitress at a Sushi/Japanese restaurant in Houston. Been there for over a year, and honestly, I enjoy it.
My dream job as a kid was to go into the Air Force, but I have a heart issue, so that’s not gonna happen.
Yes, yes, a mermaid works at a sushi restaurant. Amusing. But my boss knows about my mermaid tail stuff and my plans to get a silicone one this year so I’m afraid I’ll have to bring it to work when I get it!

I work in animation, presently I'm working on a preschool show for Disney Junior. It's a job I've always wanted and I'm pleased to say that I feel very fulfilled in my career - I think a lot of people get put off perusing creativity or their dreams, and it can be difficult in our modern society to stick to what you believe in. Certainly it doesn't always pay as well as other jobs, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Mermaiding, cosplay and art are all huge parts of my life and I've been fortunate to pursue my passions - it's always been something so ingrained in my life that I find it odd when people would question mermaids, or kids toys, or cosplay as 'weird' (I have a study full of mementos from kid's shows and games). This is all I do every day XD We all need to stay in touch with our inner child! No matter what kid's show we see on tv, or doll, or teddy, it was made by a passionate team of grownups.
I am a stay-at-home mom! I do love it, but it's really hard because I sometimes feel like I wasted my education. But financially it made no sense to stay at the job I was at when she was born.
Right now I am working on starting up my own fashion line. I would love to perform professionally someday, but I'm in my 30s so, it may not be a realistic goal.
Editing to add my previous jobs were teaching English in Japan, in the US; K5 and first grade, and working in the pharmaceutical industry.

Jamie, please remind your "friend" of some of the most well known male dancers of all time that she should know...if she is as intelligent as she is opinionated: Fred Astaire (classic ballroom, movie/musical theater)
Gene Kelly (movie/musical theater)
Gregory Hines (tap)
Sammy Davis Jr. (tap)
Savion Glover (percussive tap)
Mikael Baryshnikov (ballet)
Danny Kaye (movie/musical theater)
Domingo Ortega (flamenco)
Farruquito (flamenco)
Bob Fosse (movie/jazz)
We could go on here forever with all styles of dance and don't get me started on the choreographers!
All experts in their respective fields of dance, all men, all STRAIGHT (not that that's a barometer for masculinity because it simply isn't.)
I have don a TON of musical theater in my life and played all different kinds of roles. Having a good foundation in dance always came in handy because it only increases your value as a performer. Most of the successful actors on Broadway are triple threats as you know! Good luck!

Thank you so much. I also want to tell her that I know many athletes do dance. When I did Spelling Bee earlier this year, I felt a little embarrassed because I have not done any dance, and so, while I'm pretty good at singing and acting, I need to get the third sphere covered if I ever want to achieve my dream.
I've been talking to one of my best friends, who will hopefully be the first person I tell about the mer community (she's into fantasy and stuff like that as well, and is very open minded and supportive), is an incredibly talented dancer. She did National Dance Institute for a while, and I went to see her a few times in her shows. She has been giving me advice on how to approach this, and I'm so thankful. I would never know what to do if not for her.
I also have my voice teacher backing me up on this, so that's another great thing.
I have a couple other people I know will help me through this. And trust me, this isn't the first time she's deemed something I want to do "too feminine" or "so gay." Honestly, I'm sick of her being so homophobic. And she refuses to admit it. She doesn't know it, but I've been a big part of the Queer-Straight Alliance at my school lately. I don't know much about my identity, and it's too early for me to think about that, but right now, I just want to help as many people as possible.

I'm an electrical engineer, which is a job I wanted to do since school. Graduating from university was a hard and painful path, but it was worth it. My current job is designing electronics for automotive systems, it is interesting, pays well, but is quite stressful at times, especially when there is a major problem (most of them are...) and the deadlines are pressing. Nevertheless I really like what I'm doing.
My dream job would be designing electronics for unterwater robots (a.k.a. ROVs) and deep-sea systems, but those jobs are currently either in the military supply, the oil industry or, when in research, terribly paid and really hard to come by.
One note: Every job has its ups and downs, and even a dream job can and will be annoying at times. The most important thing is that the ups more than compensate the downs that will occur.

I work as an artist with Cirque du Soleil. I really love my job. But it did take me a long time to get here 15 years!
I've always believed that work should be enjoyable. Why spend 8+ hours of your day doing something that doesn't bring joy? I especially think that in the United states people work way too much. If you can enjoy living a simple life it is possible to work less, play more, and focus on what makes you happy. Eventutually that work in yourself will lead to great things. You asked a good question, Do you have the drive? Only you can answer that, and if you do then it will pay off in the long run.
So to answer your questions.
I work as an apnea specialist for CDS Sep7imo Dia. It is my dream job.
I had jobs that I didn't like ( Army for 8 years, and then an office job) . When I wasn't deployed or working with the army, I was training my gymnastics and I was in the water every single day, pool or ocean. I picked up a hobby of Underwater photography and freediving. Soon it started leading to part time work. When I got out of the army I worked as an underwater photographer.
Later on I had given up on my circus dreams after so many auditions that never went through and decided as I entered my 30's I should "grow up" . I spent less than a year in an office. I couldn't stand it and no matter what I did I couldn't find a way to make my "happiness tank" stay full. I just wasn't finding fullfillment. So I quite my job. Started training circus and gymnastics and got an outdoor job installing solar panels that I liked enough and gave me enough time to train and play and work on my craft.
My final advice is to follow your heart. If you're not happy then find work that does make you happy. Sometimes it's as easy as switching departments and other times it's a whole switch in careers
Hi everyone, This is a topic that has been weighing on my mind a lot.

I currently work in construction with a handyman service. So far it's been a real good change for me and my family. Prior to that I've worked off and on doing paint and body since I was seven in my family's shop. Other notable jobs include diesel mechanic, boat factory worker, air brush artist, wind turbine blade tech, apartment building maintenance, musician and auto mechanic. Honestly, I still not sure what my dream career would be. But I do feel like I'm at least heading in the right direction.

I'm a shipbuilding engineer and a carpenter, I got diploma's for both of them so that I could work in the yacht industry, sadly no-one wanted me because of the reorganization going on everywhere at that moment. Finally I got to work in the dredging industry, designing the construction of machinery foundations. Eventually that got to boring and I got into fixing problems with the drawing program we were using. At the end I got into IT and learning all kinds of IT stuff.

I graduated from being a college student in May, 2017.
Three months later, I moved to the opposite side of the globe to Mie, Japan, to teach English.
I only planned to stay for a year, but I just re-contracted for a second ;)
Considering I went to school for and majored in East Asian Studies and Japanese, I consider this to be a pretty sweet deal. I make enough money to live comfortably, indulge in delicious food and good times with friends, and travel around. The gig gives me a decent chunk of paid vacation, and national holidays often provide three day weekends, so there are plenty of opportunities to explore.
I don't have any of my tails here in Japan even though I live close to the sea, so the only downfall is my mermaiding is taking a back seat. But I don't really mind, since I feel extremely fulfilled and satisfied doing what I do. It's easy, pays well, and I enjoy it. Can't ask for much more ^^
For my next move I'm thinking about Germany or Hawai'i. I'll look into my options when the time approaches ;)

Artist, props designer but my part time employment right now is in retail mens apparel. It's a living and I enjoy it a lot as it gives me the freedom to explore and express myself as well as the time to make some really fun things. My tail started out as a prop in our window display and I've continued to grow on that since.
I worked in a job previously though that was pretty defeating. Nothing I ever did made me feel like the choices I made were good. Part of that came from my employers and how management showed their appreciation of commitment and hard work. It was their belief that pay alone was incentive in the workplace thanks and gratitude were hard to come by. The social atmosphere there was rather toxic too, I felt throttled in my self expression and didn't feel comfortable sharing my likes and hobbies with my colleagues and even had a hard time motivating myself to workout. Really I needed to grow myself and get past the mindset that other people's opinions of me mattered, I think I would have been a lot happier pursuing my interest in my youth and forcing myself to pursue a less detrimental occupational path.
Thing is I made good money in a bad environment and sometimes you have to concede to whats more important to you in your present. When I found that job red flags were everywhere and yet it had taken me 4 months of denied employment and a depleting bank account to get it so I was scared to leave it. I continued to let that fear of repeated failure haunt me and stop me from escaping into a better suited position that matched both my passions and education in the arts. I didn't want to be homeless, or poor and in those moments it was worth the price of happiness. I took my time though, cut back my hours and found a second job (my current one) and eventually took that leap because there was just one day when I looked in the mirror and broke down at how unhappy and unfulfilled my life was. I would rather live paycheque to paycheque and be happy than have financial security and anguish.
...well that was darker than I expected but I hope it helps.

I have always loved animals and it is one of my biggest passions. My dream is to become an Aquatic Veterinarian and take care of all the amazing creatures that live in the sea.
It's a tough job with a lack of appreciation all around, but I love being able to care for animals in need and give them love in my hospital when they are away from everything they know and love.

Wow, I want to seriously thank all of you for sharing your jobs and your dreams with me! I mean it when I say reading all of your posts was inspiring! I should have checked back on this topic sooner so that I could reply to more of them individually. A lot of you said some very, very good points.
Since leaving my job I have been working on making armor and going to a convention and then a Renaissance Fair to scope out vendors and consider getting a booth once I get up my inventory.
Then, something happened out of the blue and it is crazy for my introverted self to be doing it, but heck I'm going for it...
I work as a deckhand and historian aboard an antique steamship (the same one shown in my sig.) I occasionally wear my tail at work (to greet passengers at festivals), but usually I stay in uniform xD. I love my work, and my passion is for maritime history of the Seattle area.
My college degree is in theatrical costume making, however I don't make any money in that field. (Just make a lot of my own costumes)
So, I'm quoting Exdraghunt because I am about to become a deckhand and historian on the Nina replica ship! It all just sort of happened...I had mentioned to my Dad that the Nina and Pinta replica ships would be in our area soon and I was interested in seeing them. I thought he had forgotten about it but one day my Mom was like, "Hey, let's go see the ships!" Then, my Mom said maybe I could even join the crew. My Dad shook his head no. He is very protective of me - my Dad is a retired cop/probation officer. He said he wouldn't want me around gruff sailors. I agreed but secretly thought it would be cool. Well once we got on the ships I immediately saw a "crew wanted" sign. The crew all appear to be around my age and they are all very nice people. They were in the same boat as me before joining the crew. They had just left their job, they didn't know what they wanted to do, etc. The minimum amount of time you can stay on board is 3-4 weeks. After that, you can go or if the Captain likes you and you like the ship, you can stay. I found out the First Mate of the Nina is a mermaid! She seemed excited to hear I am bringing my tail so hopefully we will get some time to go mermaiding together. She said that they have had people get mermaid photos on the ship before. So tomorrow I will be joining the crew of the Nina! I know I have a lot to learn but they are used to teaching people how to work on the ship. I will also have to learn a bunch of facts about the ships since the Nina and Pinta are like floating museums.
I'm avoiding thinking about it too much. I don't want to make myself nervous or worry myself. I'm looking forward to all the traveling. From the videos I have watched on YouTube a lot of the deckhands interviewed said they originally were going to stay the 3 weeks then ended up staying a year or more! They said they have made memories that will last a lifetime. I haven't done a lot of traveling in my life. This will be the biggest thing I have ever done so I hope all will go well! I have no idea if this is something I would like to do for the rest of my life, but the way it all just came together and the way my protective parents are fine with me going off sailing it just seems to be right.
So like I said tomorrow I will become a deckhand and set sail on a new chapter in my life! Maybe I will get to meet other members of Mernetwork on my journey! :)

Thank you! I completely agree, there should be more mental health staff at schools, especially because this is where kids and teens spend most of their days! I think right after I graduate, I'd like to work in a normal school that also has special education classrooms - just to first gain some experience under my belt and to learn the ropes. Once I feel more confident in my abilities and know the ropes a bit better, than I would love to work at a special education school! My end goal though is to either return back to Pakistan (where I'm from) or work somewhere else abroad (my boyfriend Slovenian - might end up there in the future) at an international school, similar to the ones I grew up studying at. That would be my dream school-psychologist job, I think!

I adore my coworkers, I love my regulars and the work is so fun. There are days that I hate it, of course but at the end of the day, it's a fun place to work.
My best advice is to work somewhere fun. Work at an ice or rollar rink, a movie theatre, a pet store, a bowling alley, a theme park. The perks will be amazing and you'll be a to have a lot of fun until you find an 'adult job' in your dream field.

Here is an unfinished, unedited piece of an article I wrote a while ago on how teenagers can make money.
There are many different ways to make money when it comes down to it. You simply have to have drive, time, and be prepared to exert some effort. For example, cleaning an entire house may seem like a snap, but it is incredibly difficult if you are thorough. People want clean houses, and you want money. See where I am going? People will pay teenagers to clean their houses for a more reasonable price than traditional cleaning services. Make some lists of things you can and will do for people. Next, find some customers. Start with some friends’s parents or other people comfortable with you, then branch out. Decide your hourly rate next. Say you decide to work quickly and thoroughly, and charge $15 per hour. The average price per hour for housekeeping services are $25-$35 dollars, so you’ve just given clients a big reason to hire you instead of a professional service.
I know there’s some talented teenagers around. If you have a special talent you think you could utilize, don’t let it go to waste. Hold classes for neighborhood kids. Not only will the parents get a free hour or so to themselves, their child will be learning a new skill! Decide if you are more suited for a one-time class or a package deal of several. Then, pick a charge both useful to you and affordable to parents. Once you have decided everything, begin making an itinerary. This is a detailed list of things you will teach and in what order. Make sure all things on your list a relevant and interesting. Kids aren't hard to entertain, but that doesn’t mean they won't get bored if you play your cards wrong.
Sell your stuff. From old junk and toys you never uses to handmade items, there are plenty of people willing to buy second hand items if it means saving a dollar. Found some old video games for a system now irrelevant to you? Sell them on places like LetGo, GarageSale, eBay, or Etsy (for handmade goods primarily). Pick a reasonable price for the amount of usage on the item and its worth. For example, don't sell an old pre-completed rpg game for a discontinued system from 1960 for $200.

I need to work on finding a job this semester so like, I can do things like make money, maybe find my own place, save to pay back loans...Once upon a time I worked at a library, would love to do something like that again...
I'm a student currently for fine art at UArts, cool thing at least is I'm also minoring in art education so if I need something to eventually fall back on I can teach art when I'm not solely focused on making it. I will do everything in my power to get my money's worth out of this school.
But ah, just putting it out there, totally not a shameless plug or anything, if anyone needs some art done and has some money to spare I wouldn't object to being hit up. I can check my schedule, give a quote, work out a deal. I'm not a terrible artist apparently. My trouble comes in figuring out how to market myself...

Well, hopefully this will give hope to someone. I had given up on getting a graphic design job and I was interviewing for all kinds of things and not having any luck and out of nowhere in November a graphic design position opened up at a business I was familiar with. It is a sporting goods business that also does T-shirt screen printing and they always have two graphic designers to create their T-shirt artwork. One of their graphic designers was leaving so they needed to fill the opening quickly. I had already designed T-shirt artwork that was printed by them so for my interview instead of bringing in a traditional graphic design portfolio I brought in a stack of T-shirts with my artwork on them that they had printed. Evidently it isn't very common to find a T-shirt graphic designer so they were very impressed and they hired me without even interviewing anyone else.
So basically I just want to say don't give up because things can work out for the better really quickly! I am so incredibly happy now to have a graphic design job. It doesn't pay that well so I probably can't work here forever, but for now it is exactly what I need. My co-workers are great, I make tons of artwork a week, I'm not stressed, and most importantly I don't dread going to work - I usually look forward to it!
What about some of you other mers swimming the interwebs who haven't commented yet? What is your human job?

This is probably not helpful at all, but I am home schooled and have no job. Yet. I really want to start a business where I do calligraphy for people ( graphic design? or is that only on computers?) Soo, not helpful, but there is my reply. Wish you luck,

Depends on how you define job. I spend most of my time with my toddler son. I'm also a graduate student getting a PhD in Information and Library Science, a research assistant, and a consultant. (That last one is new! A former boss brought me an exciting opportunity to use some dusty librarian skills and I said yes.) I've been a university tech support assistant, an afterschool program assistant, a Latin teacher, a customer service rep, a school librarian, and public communications specialist for a mostly-online K12 university outreach program. That last one was a dream job, but I left after my colleagues were laid off or reassigned because I could tell that once our active projects were finished, I would be laid off or reassigned, too.
Maybe someone has said this already - I'll catch up on the earlier posts in this thread soon - but I wanted to address what seems like a common concern, finding a job that aligns with your passions. I've been lucky to do that, but I've also had times when I couldn't. I'm really coming around to the idea of a "good enough" job, one that uses some of your talents, skills, and interests but leaves you with the free time to do others.
Also - I say as I hit my very late 30s and am going to have been a grown up for 20 years - I think it's okay, common, expected that you'll have many jobs and even careers over the course of your working life. So, especially if you're young, but really at any age, cut yourself a break with respect to finding a dream job or even figuring out what you want to do. You might find that good enough job, pursue other stuff as hobbies, and then find that that leads to opportunities, then decide you want to try something new. If you're able to meet your basic needs and obligations, you can just keep trying stuff.
If you feel like you have too many interests, you might look at the writings of Barbara Sher, Margaret Lobenstine, or Emily Wapnick for help finding ways to pursue multiple passions at once.
Hope this hasn't been too unsolicited advicey.

Well said Mermaid Kiba!
I once met a mermaid who was a Christopher Columbus replica ship crew member. The ships travel around as 'floating museums' and the crew members give talks/tours. When they are sailing though, you work just like any deckhand (I did it for 3 days). Anyways, she also did a lot of routine maintenance on the boats. Quite the mermaid-y job! I know she was working on getting her captain's license.

I provide software technical support for a large multinational company. It's not the most stimulating job, but it pays the bills.
I'd love to do something that has a direct, positive impact on the Earth (and also allows me to afford an apartment in San Diego) but I think that ship has sailed at this point. I just try to minimize my negative impact by driving an electric car and minimizing the waste I generate.

I dropped out of college due to emotional breakdowns and aimless uncertainty. I have a very flexible job as a retail merchandiser. I won't disclose what company I represent. I can go to my various assigned stores at any time of the day and, to a certain extent, I can choose what days I visit those stores. I work by myself. I hate customers (I was a cashier at a craft store in the past), and thankfully at this job I don't have to deal with them and their rudeness. I'm so grateful to have such a job like this with only a high school diploma. My only issue is time management. I love staying up late and sleeping in. If I manage my time wisely, I could do so much more.
As much as I like my job, I don't earn enough to be financially independent. I earn $10 an hour, and work around 12-20 hours a week. I receive a biweekly paycheck. I'd like to get a second part-time job, but I need to manage my time better first so that I can still see my boyfriend once or twice a week while juggling two jobs. I'm slowly increasing my savings while I live with my parents and help clean and tidy up the house. Maybe in the future I could rent an apartment with my boyfriend and we could combine our incomes to get by, but my parents are conservative in their belief systems. They believe that a couple shouldn't live together unless they're married. Also, my dad would prefer that I skip renting apartments and buy a house. I would have to live with my parents for over a decade more to save up to buy a home outright because I don't think I'm eligible for mortgage payments. My family can't afford to help me. I would prefer that they focus on retirement goals, anyway. As for career paths, nothing really speaks to me.

Illustrator, puppeteer, rennie, and special effects artist.
Working full time as an artist is the best decision I've ever made. Ultimately I love every hour of hard work put into each day and the rewards of creating are incredible. It's not an easy or wealthy way to live- Its incredibly modest to say the least; however I wouldn't want it any other way.
As an artist you look for ways to express and explore who you are by sharing with others. The dedication you put in will ultimately lead to fulfillment.

I work fulltime at an animal rescue! It definitely gets draining emotionally mentally and physically but it’s MOSTLY to management:/.... I enjoy helping animals haha so i enjoy what i do. There are just those that make it difficult at times. I am hoping to get a new job in the new yr but im not entirely sure what to do. I honestly feel like the typical work schedule just doesn’t work for me:/... i have bad focus, and get bored easily, so i wish i could so something short and still make money for it, like selling items, ha you make a couple a week but it doesnt take up 12 hrs of your day everyday type thing. Outside of the regular fulltime 9-5 stuff I model as well! That’s where i kinda get to explore the artsy side and have fun too ha.

I work in a restaurant as an all rounder, but I'm mostly back of house and I perform all the tasks a fully qualified chef would do. I've been at this job since February, so just before corona but I'm wanting to leave as the owner is really not a nice person. 80% of the people who I originally worked with have quit. I’ve been inactive for a long while, but I’m popping in again to say hello!
Reading this over again, the post’s energy is not that great. It’s been four years since I posted this. I was tired of floundering in stagnant water. Life has changed since then for the better, as has my maturity. I have a purpose in life and a much more positive, ambitious energy. Right now, I’m 27 and attending community college. I have a year under my belt, made the Dean’s List for both semesters, and I have one more year to go before I transfer to university to aim for my bachelor’s. I’m studying interior design, and I enjoy sewing clothes on the side with my grandmother’s sewing machine. I’m still dating the same boyfriend, too. We’ve been together for six years now, and he just graduated from university!
Previously I was posting that I have changed my work in Dubai. Now I came to the problem that I started to lose my hair constantly. Like, it was not just a one-time thing but periodically!
I was advised to go to Mexico and receive help there with a Hair restoration (https://hairinmexico.com/about/). Thanks to my job in AEU, I was sucessful to do it and now everything is fine. Finally!
I am 25 though, haha

I agree, finding a good job with a decent salary is not so easy. But you can always consider the option of au pair jobs usa (https://www.aifs.com.au/programs/au-pair-in-america/au-pair-in-america), thanks to which you can work in the field that you like and get good money for it. You can follow the link right now to leave an application and your details for a nanny vacancy.
I work as an UI/UX designer. Now doing a cool web platform about gaming and all the recent news about that and so on. I like my job. Every month I receive a new interesting order that I have to fulfill. Last month it was building a sleep app. This month it's the creation of a game site, as I said. Although I am not very strong in this, but thanks to the 카지노 사이트 제작 (https://www.namoo-one.com/) and the opportunities they can give in colloboration with them I believe I can create something fresh and really saas which will attract new people.
