Hi mers, I am a writer in NZ, who is working on a book about the rise of professional mermaids and the mermaid as a symbol in the 20th and 21st centuries. My book covers everything from the film Splash to conservation, sexuality, mers of colour, and much more. I have been interviewing merfolk on Skype for over a year now, and I am doing more research now. If you'd be interested in talking to me please get in touch. I am especially wanting to connect more with mermen, tailmakers, and mers in Europe, Uk and beyond. I have spoken to a good representation in the US (obviously a big place for mers), Australia and Canada...however, anyone should feel free to contact me wherever they are as my research is ongoing these next 6 months.
