This is sort of an introduction as well.... but osiyo, I'm Aniganatis (Ani-gah-nat-tus) and I was on the old site, and now I'm here. Finally I'll post one of these. Yay me!! :D ( I forgot the password for this account and JUST found it, have no clue where I left off at so I'll redo my intro ) I'm a nursing student and just turned 19 and on my second year for my RN, then gonna transfer for Marine Biology and double majoring in History. Happy Birthday to me! ( March 20th) I spent 3 days on this tail, due to class, but it turned out ok. It's actually my second tail, my first tail didn't turn out so good but it was mines and is still posted on my bedroom wall. I plan on getting better at tail making, I am very good at art, so I'm going to use that to start my own business. I still have much to learn but I hope that I can get better at making tails and such, I also sell jewerly and perfume, to not only help pay my way through college but help with my moms chemo. :) So please, give me your views on this tail, and any advice you can give me to make it better. I have a while new tail idea which I have seen has not been done before and it makes me so excited!!! :D You'll just have to wait to see the designs :p but it's worth it.

Anyway, I learned a lot from making this tail, like one, paint the tail BEFORE sewing it up, and NOT after. I like large flukes so I need to widen my fluke shape, and I just learned how to use a sewing machine( learned in 30 minutes on my birthday, still don't get it much ), but it seems to be stuck. The thread from the bottom keeps getting stuck and pulling out so much more thread and sucking the fabric in through the hole. Any advice would be helpful. I also learned.. I'm not as tall as I think I am. Goddess I'm shrinking. Also, I was going to airbrush it, Learned

And finally, I owe everything to Mermaid Sasha for giving me directions on youtube, Mermaid Raven for the silicone and giving me the desire to outdo her, :$, and The Mertailor and his reviews here for making me want to be a great business owner and not do the things he has done. Also little orca, she gave me faith to make tails for everyone. So... give me your views, remember, I am still new, but trust and believe, my name will be the next big thing!

I like the tail. It's very original. Personally (please don't take this wrong) I could see more brownish colors in an Egyptian like tail. Also some hieroglyphics would be cool but that's just my imagination talking. Good luck on your next tail idea! Can't wait to see it!

It looks great. I'd be curious to see how it looks when worn.

Welcome back, btw.

Thanks!

@Gem: And yeah I was thinking of brown, but they had no brown fabric, so insteas I was thinking of the yellow and black egyptain beads. I had to sub, everything because they didn't have it, Sucks horribly but it was alright enough. And for my next tail I'm going use hieroglyphics. I have like 20 more to do O_o But it'll be epic !

The bottom thread is the bobbin thread, which is fed from the bobbin in the bottom. True story, actually returned a sewing machine that did the same thing because I thought it was broken. Turns out I was putting the bobbin in the holder wrong. The manuals that come with the machine are a must read, but they don't explain very well how to do this. Watch as many videos to make sure you know how to do it right (here is one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZX3LjiYOLsg))- it makes all the difference. I still have issues with the bobbin thread bunching, looping, and getting caught sometimes. The best thing to do is always run a test strip through your sewing machine before you start sewing again, to make sure nothing funky is going on. Better to do it on a test strip and be able to fix the thread and move on then having to spend a whole lot of time carefully seam ripping a mess that could have been avoided. Another tip is to not push the sewing machine if it's having trouble with the fabric. You can stop and take it out, or even back stitch before you take it out so you won't have to start over from the beginning, but where you left off. Go as slow as you need to to keep an eye on things, to make sure the thread isn't having trouble, or that the fabric isn't getting sucked in. Usually if the bobbin is having issues or the thread gets stuck in once place and you keep going the feeder WILL suck in the fabric, then that's a whole other mess which can involve taking the face plate off and cutting the fabric out of the feeders. Guide the fabric as it goes through the machine, but let the machine do the pulling on it's own. Don't pull the fabric as you sew or it can bunch, because it's a stretchy fabric. Make sure you're using a stretch stitch (like a zig zag- sewing manuals usually define what stitches are stretch stitches) for a longer lasting seam that will stretch with the fabric.

Hope that helps resolve your problem!

Thanks! It turnes out I was sewing to fast and the bobby thread kept getting stuck in the little loop thingy >_< And I followed your advice, I slowed down and when it got stuck I just stopped, and redid it. This tail didn't turn out how I wanted 100% but I'm going to get better, just you guys wait. :D
