Molds for fluke?????

What does everyone use to cast there fluke from clay? I used plaster of Paris for my scales and smaller fins but when I whent to turn my fluke mold over it broke. Is there any way to fix it??? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180331/e8e5162b43f0ec4a96d8556502a938a4.jpg

I've head of people using resin of some sort. I can remember the name. I'm sure you could find YouTube tutorials.

As for fixing a plaster mold.... Well maybe but silicone picks up every detail and it might show up in the fluke.

If you glue it back together, you might be able to fill in any cracks or gaps with a small amount of plaster. (you might have to sand it a bit to smoothness) That's how I filled in the bubbles in my plaster fluke mould, by mixing tiny amounts of plaster and carefully smearing it into the holes.

I make my moulds out of plaster. I also had my fluke moulds break but they can easily be fixed. I put watered down plaster on the two edges and when that dried, I gently flipped the mould over and put more plaster on the top so it wouldn't break.

Only a little, but my mould had lines in it anyway so I blended the crack in with the lines :) you can work with it to make it less noticeable and I'm sure that the paint job would hide it :) On my tail, you can hardly see where the mould cracked unless you look closely :)

Oh dear! Did you mix enough plaster with water or leave it to dry for long enough, because that can cause plaster moulds to become brittle and powdery. It's all part of a learning curve! When you make another mould out of plaster, you could embed something in the plaster for strength but you need to be careful of what you use because when I used chicken wire in one of my first moulds, it rusted and it didn't strengthen the mould at all. I ended up destroying that mould and starting over. Some recommend you use cheesecloth. Make sure that when you make another mould, you use plaster that's specifically used for making moulds, and not use crafty plaster. I used casting plaster to make my moulds and it works really well! :)
