My first hybrid, sequins and caulk!

Hey! I thought it'd be fun to make a thread here to share and keep track of how im going to be making my newest tail. I'm hoping to use this tail for land performances and shoots and some water things too! It'll be a caulked fluke, silicone fins, sequin scales and maybe a caulked built in gap wrap. I'm hoping to make something similar to an ariel tail but with my own twist!

Starting out i have my design set out, it's rough but you get the idea ;)

I've already cut my mahina fin down a little but i plan to cut it down more, and then re-sew my base spandex tail probably this evening or tomorrow evening to match the shape of the fluke in my design. Here it is currently, i'm so scared to cut it again!

My scales arrived this week and i had a little play with the placement. I'm going to make a duct tape dummy of my whole self and tail, then glue every scale on individually because i detest sewing. I have 3 different types of scales and i'm using over sized sequins in AB blue green, oil slick black and just plain green to create an uneven, more natural look.

And finally! The amazing Claire of sea maiden studios made me these incredible little hip fins i'll be add in to the top of the tail too and using the same pigment to colour the caulked fluke and possibly if i have enough to caulk the top of the waist band that too! Here is my dog modelling the fin for you all as her new mersona, pugshark.

Thankyou! I cant wait either... Sadly silicone is being pushed back a few days as my pigments havent arrived in time, boo but on the upside i can take my newly cut mahina for a swim! :) I'm going to work on my giant clam shell instead today and get that all pained up. eek!
