Good evening from the Great Lakes, mernetwork!

My name is Rachel- my profile picture is upside down rn but I'm working on it haha
I'm a college grad from MI who is very interested in using mermaiding as an outreach tool. My degree is in natural resources management with a bio minor. Currently I'm employed at a nonprofit teaching lake ecology aboard tallships sailing around one of the Great Lake's Bays.

At the end of last fall I bought a Mahina monofin. Obviously winter is no time to take a sploosh in the lake, and none of my local swim centers allowed me to use the monofin. I was pretty frustrated to let my baby gather dust all winter :( But summer is creeping in! The lakes are cold but they will be warm soon and I can't wait to get in the water.

I've never been an avid swimmer, but I can move around in the water just fine. I'm excited to finally start utilizing this community and learn from all of you.
Any dubious mermaiding advice is appreciated :)

Hiya! There's a decent sized pod in your area dedicated to great lakes conservation. They had a big presence at the just-finished Mermaid Megafest 2018 event! I'm trying to recall the pod name. I'll post again once I do.

Welcome to mermaiding!

I work with a nonprofit in Northern Michigan and when I opened up about this outreach idea I have, they told me that there are mermaids that call in all the time! I asked one of my coworkers if any of them had left the name of a Pod and they said no. Please let me know if you remember!

Thank you :)
