View Full Version : Brand New Mermaid from Georgia~
Hi all! My name is Bee (and I'm still working on a mermaid name), I was introduced to mermaiding as a hobby/profession and this forum from a friend and now (nearly a month later) I've finally made an account. I don't have a tail just yet, but I'm saving up and plan to have one in just a couple of weeks. Once I have a basic tail and monofin, I want to make my own custom tail as well. I live on the Chattahoochee river in Georgia, and look forward to meeting more of my local pod!
I grew up swimming nonstop, but almost exclusively in pools- I'm excited to use this as a way to get over my fear of swimming in natural bodies of water, and learning how to free dive! I'm already a very strong swimmer, but I am lacking in general technique and endurance. I'm picking this up alongside another hobby in an effort to better myself and my health, and I'm so thrilled to get started!

Have you found the local Facebook groups yet? There's Atlantean Sirens mer pod , the Appalachian mermaids have a fan page to sync up with, and there are various Florida groups that start with Pod of the South. You'll also want to join Dragon Con mers, some local info goes through there.

Hi Bee! Welcome! I first found out about mermaiding after seeing a video of either Hannah or Melissa (I think it was Hannah), but I lurked for a while and finally made an account one and a half years later! That's awesome that you're so close to getting your tail! Which one did you settle on? I have two from Fin Fun, but also planning on making others from the ground up. Careful, tailmaking (and top making, and accessory making) can be addicting!
I too swam almost exclusively in pools, I don't mind oceans with clear water (the water in Galveston & Corpus Christy is very murky), but I don't think you'll ever find me swimming in a lake! Props to all the mers that do though! Freediving is an awesome skill for mermaiding and definitely betters people's health. I'm so excited for you, good luck!
