Newbie Merman

Looks like I'm coming out of the clamshell and I'm looking to find mers around my area to pal up with. I am in my early 20's but ever since I was a child I have had this fascination with everything living beneath the waves of our beautiful Oceans. Growing up in Sarasota Florida I have always been surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico's clear emerald waters. I remember watching Splash with my grandma as a very young child and ever since I saw that beautiful orange tail I was hooked. When I swam I started to kick with both feet just like a Mer would. In the pool I would cross my ankles and examine the shawdow because it resembled a Mers tail crossing my fingers that when I looked down my legs and feet would be no more. I would spend endless hours researching merfolk. Examining their tails and how graceful they appeared in the water. Finding every mermaid/merman movie I could get my hands on and watch it over and over. I would draw merpeople and obsess over every detail creating my own fantasy. My parents took me to wiki watchi for one of my birthdays and I got my first experience up close to the mermaids. I came home and went to my Grandmother's house and begged and pleaded for her to make me a tail the same as the mermaids I saw. I never got this tail though but my interest in Merfolk grew over time. As a teenager I stumbled upon the mertailor's website very early in his career. I saw these beautiful realistic tails and I couldn't wait to get my hands on one of them. I have still yet to get my tail, but I'm saving and scraping every penny to buy one of these amazing tails. I am looking for people around my age who I can talk to about my fascination; because honestly I'm nervous to talk to anyone about my merman tendencies. It would be really awesome to find my pod here in the Sarasota area and have a group who would help me better explore the world of the Merfolk. I am a huge fan of spontaneous trips to explore our beautiful state of Florida. So I would love a group who would want to drive up to the springs, explore the open ocean, or drive down to the keys and dive the coral reefs. I was laying in bed last night researching different silicone tail creators when I stumbled upon this group. I never would have imagined how many people shared in my same obsession. Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

I think we’ve all been there before especially taking your tail out to a public place for the 1st time! You are among friends here! I discovered tails 6 years ago and just last year bought my 1st fabric tail best decision I ever made! It was like a little girls dream coming true :D. I’m addicted and so are my kids once you put on a tail regular swimming just isn’t the same. I’m sorry I’m not in Florida (wish I was) I’m a Texas creek mermaid lol! I grew up on the Gulf of Mexico though. Again welcome!!!

Welcome Blaze! Try joining the pod of the south, you'll definitely find people to talk to (both online and in person) and attend meet ups with. As to not knowing how many people share your obsession: you're definitely not alone! Also the mer community as a whole is very kind, welcoming, accepting and just all around filled with good people. Yes, sometimes there's an oddball or scammer here or there, but the vast majority of mers here are awesome people who share this common interest and have amazing ideas about everything from lore to tailmaking. I'm a Panama city,Florida mermaid! I wish I could get into contact with you but my job only gives me 2 days off a week but always is Sunday and then some other day of the week. I crossed my ankles to when I was a kid swimming like that. Get yourself a monofin to start out, I've been losing weight since I started this fun work out and build up skills before I even get a tail!
