Scale fabric?

I really want my tail to have scales, but not like silicone scales. I am going to make another fabric tail, and I want this one to be more "realistic." If anyone has ever found a site that sells fabric that looks like fish scales, but doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I would be SOOOOO HAPPY if you shared the link! :D Or is there is a way to make them out of fabric without making it to heavy? I know you can paint them on, but I would rather use fabric that looks like it instead.

You could sew each scale on like Hannah Fraser did, but that takes a lot of patience and I couldn't do it. Also,check Joann's. I've seen some pretty cool fabric from there

Thank you for the links! I just put in a request for some free samples from them so this way i can find the best material and each one can be unique to each of my girls. :D
