What specifically do you need help with -- interviews, designs or anything else?

We don't know enough about your assignment to answer your questions, so it'll help if you narrow down your topic first. Can you describe the scope of your paper?

What is Mermaiding ?
When was it invented?
Is there any steorotypes in this community?
Then this a good thing for the people
Or bad thing for people to try?
How supportiveness is this mercomuntiy?

What is Mermaiding ?

Swimming / Diving with a monofin while wearing mermaid tail.

When was it invented?

A long time ago.

Is there any steorotypes in this community?

Probably not in the comunity, but probably outside.

Then this a good thing for the people
Or bad thing for people to try?

It depends on the place you are, sex, your swimming / diving abilities and your mindset.
There are some places in the world, where especially males fear being connected with stereotypes which do not reflect the truth but if they cannot deal with it, they won't do the sport (you can find lots post about this topic in this forum).
On other places (like where i live, sex is completely irrelevant). As long as you can swim, you can learn it in shallow waters.
It is a good thing as it keeps you fit and you train many parts of your body.
Reasons not to do the sport are the same as for diving (mostly health issues).

How supportiveness is this mercomuntiy?

You can see it in different forums or even better if you meet some.
