Where do you buy silicone? + other questions

So this will probably be for future reference, but where do you get silicone? Also, what are the steps of making one? Such as do you need to make a cast of your legs or what? Does it have some type of monofin in it? What propels you in the water? If someone could give a brief answer to my questions that would be wonderful!

Perhaps a little rearranging is in order so that the FAQ and all the hard work for it is not lost? I know it's on the top of the nav bar but I certainly wouldn't go there for tail questions and honestly I never really paid it any mind assuming it would cover the basics of what mermaiding is and about the site, etc.

I agree that a lot of stuff on the site doesn't get used cause no one sees it, but I'm not sure how to arrange things to make them more visible. Any ideas?

Make them bigger :) Not 100% sure I'll think about it though, cause the way it is now is really the only logical way. People just don't think to look, I know I never thought to look.

I've been browsing around as well but I can't find any specific answers on making FULL silicone tails.
I essentially also have the same questions as Oceanblue.

If you do have to cast your legs, how do you do it? With agitate or whatever? xD
And then what can you make the cast out of so that it won't stick to the silicone?
If you make a cast of your legs as they are will the tail be tight enough?
Etc. etc.

my art teacher says to make a leg cast from plaster and you could either fill it with more plaster or make a cast from it and fill it with expanding foam which will give you a soft body form of just you legs. and a full silicone tail is like a latex on. you might still need a neoprene base for comfort. but you basically sculpt and make casts from your pieces this video might help because it shows the process.

you see how they sculpt the tail ontop of the leg mould and sew the neoprene separetly then they cast the sculpt and i think they use more silicone to attache the now silicone tail made from the mold of the sculpt the the neoprene which is now on the body cast.(there's a zipper in the back so the slit down the center makes it easier to attach to neoprene and the silicone.)
