I found this through pinterest earlier. She doesn't give the directions for the cozy itself, but the octopus is the really awesome part, and could be used for so many other things anyway.

Here's a tiny, tiny picture.

I just love the texture of the arms!

The octopus is made separately and doesn't look too hard, though I'll admit I've never done something like this before.

I'm gonna though. Soon I'll have an octopus on everything!

That is so cool! :D I've attempted to knit but it always goes weird, or my cat attacks my wool lol

Yeah, I like to knit but I've never done anything really complicated. To be honest, I'm not so sure about how to read patterns. I only know some of the basic ones. I'm going to have to sit down and learn the rest for this project, and because it'd probably be good to know anyway.

I'm excited though, because now I'm going to wanna go out and get some cool yarn! I think we have an actual yarn shop (no idea what you'd call it) in the down town area of Frederick, so maaaaybe I'll have to check it out this weekend. Joanne's is okay, but I want some real yarn <3

Oh, cats :)

Bump!

I found this adorable looking knitted clownfish pattern (http://www.michaels.com/Knit-a-Clownfish/31803,default,pd.html) through Pinterest. It's knitted in the round. The pattern looks a little scary to me, but really I think all it's doing is increasing and then decreasing. I think if you understood the abbreviations and didn't mind sitting and knitting in front of the computer screen, you'd be fine.

Speaking of understanding the pattern, that octopus was harder than I thought. I don't like to work with patterns much. I'd rather just start something and see what I come up with, so I spent a decent chunk of time trying to understand the abbreviations. I used this fuzzy yarn that I loved for its color, but it was a nightmare with this pattern. Also it turned out about three times the size I expected. So if you're thinking about trying this one, use smaller needles and thinner yarn. I guess I missed that when I read the pattern :p
Other than the scale, it was pretty adorable.

Sorry the octopus didn't come out as planned, but I think that the clownfish knit that you found is so adorable! I knit sometimes so that is definately on my list of things to do!

A friend knitted a stuffed octopus. It was awesome. She also made a stuffed anglerfish for me. If you want, I can ask her for the reference. The octo has the cutest little curly tentacles. I think she made it for a little cousin or someone. Anyway, I'm sure the recipient cherishes it.

Avid knitter here... I think I might know the pattern your friend used green52!
Could it be this?: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/deep-sea-anglerfish
She is a FANTASTIC artist/pattern maker who specialises in marine critters :http://www.ravelry.com/designers/hansi-singh

I bought the pattern for the Cuttlefish a while back, I recommend her books which have things like the Octopus in it. Also, if you search Knitty (its an online mag) there is a free pattern for a Nautilus :)

Ooh, I've seen that person's work before, and I just love those curly arms! I also like her nudibranch. They're so cool!

I was looking through pinterest again and found this link (http://whatnot2crochet.com/wordpress/?p=2457) for a crocheted octopus/squid hat. I admit I didn't check up on the original source, just the blog, but it looks like there's no pattern, just a way to purchase a finished hat. It makes for a fun idea.

I was also thinking about the clownfish just now- it might be fun to make them so you can put a bar of soap inside and it becomes a fun bath scrubbie. could be a fun item to sell or make as gifts:)
