Im a plus size very new beginner thats struggling to find tails at an beginner/casual price for sizes bigger than 2x that look nice. im roughly a 3x and only have found finfolk or custom sizes but cant afford to drop 400/500 dollars usd on a tail (minus monofin) and its dragging me down.
I make art for a living because im disabled (mood disorder/personality disorder/autism) so it would take me ages to reach that kind of money. Sorry if i come off as rude :(
Unfortunately I think your research is right. Yl'luria wears custom tails from Magictails and Fin Fun. You might reach out to her since she seems to have a lot of tails but she doesn't tag them so I am not sure where they are from. Custom fabric tails on etsy start pretty inexpensive, but they aren't printed.

Why don't you just make your own for now?

You can also find a seamstress in your area. That is what me and my friend did when we made our first tails, and later on we met a friend with a sewing machine. I think the seamstress charged $50 or so, but mine was a little extra because I had pelvic fins.

Another thing you could try is get a monofin, and leggings made for swimming, that have a mermaid scale print. It isn't perfect but it's better than nothing. At least invest in a monofin so you have something while you figure out the tailskin issue

Sewing is really quite easy! You can find used sewing machines for next to nothing. It may take a bit of experimentation and practice but it's a really easy skill to pick up.

Fin Fun has fairly large sizes. Also, they do custom, and its just a little over $100.
Edit: I just checked it out. I cannot find Fin Fun's custom size option anymore. Did they discontinue it? Their largest size now is 42" waist, 50" hips. Although, I will say spandex stretches alot, and will fit larger than that.

They don't have their custom option anymore.

Good news! Custom-size tails are back on Fin Fun's website www.finfunmermaid.com. Hopefully this will help you get the tail you want!

If you can afford to front a little extra, I definitely would suggest a mertailor fabric skin! The xl fits all the way up to a 50 inch waist iirc, same for their nicer whimsy tails.
