Hellu fellow mers ^__^ and greetings from PDX.
My name is Len and I’m a non-bionary mer new to the area as of last year. 2018 was a rebuilding year so I didn’t really get out but I’m excited to get out there this year and swim around with y’all. I’ve always been a strong swimmer, but haven’t had the pleasure of swimming in a monofin yet. My collection of dry-land tails, since I was a teeny merling, is large but terrible for swimming in so they’re cute costume momentoes and nothing more haha. Like many of us, Ariel was my favorite Disney Princess. Darrel Hannah in Splash was a goddess and the 3 mermaids in Hook enchanted my little heart to be forever in love with mermaids. With all the amazing tailmakers out there/resources to diy, it’s possible to really get into that world for fun, business, and whatever works really.
I’m currently saving up for my first swimable tail with the wholehearted encouragement of my hubby, (shell yeah, tax return!) but have no idea where PNW (Portland Oregon specifically) mers swim at. I’ve researched a bit, there’s pools that seem to be an option, and the Portlandia Parade sounds fun, but if there’s any meetups happening I’d be totally into tagging along to meet you guys! I’ve joined the pod for our area, so I’ll keep looking there too.
Anywho, so nice to meet you all and I hope to see you soon. I don’t have a mermaid name yet but I’m kicking around a few. ^__^
Any Guam mers? Hafa adai! I lived there a few months and that island is heartswellingly beautiful. Still thinking of possibly moving back someday.
