Linking to pictures on Dropbox

I tried embedding pictures from my Dropbox account, but the only thing that worked was posting the URL. Everytime I tried embedding the image link for the picture to show in the post, the link was broken.

Finally switched to hosting the images on Imgur, but now I would like to know what I did wrong with the Dropbox option. ;)

Dropbox doesn't work yeah, it has to be a publicly hosted file somewhere. You can right click copy image source for images on FB :)

I wouldn't advise to use FB either. They are always shifting things around to prevent hot-linking, so your photos will come up broken and not display after a while. I recommend a free photo hosting service that allows you to hot-link or embed, such as Imgur :)
