Hi everyone, my name is Kim and I'm a newbie mermaid living just outside Glasgow, UK. I'm originally from Australia but live permanently in Scotland nowadays.
I've enjoyed wild swimming my whole life including swimming in the Clyde river in Scotland in winter! Hoping to swim in some lochs this summer.
I discovered mermaid tails for adults just this year when looking for costumes for my niece. I was lucky enough to find a mermaid experience class in Glasgow in March so I got a chance to try out fins and fabric tails in a deep swimming pool. Swimming underwater seemed so natural and put such a smile on my face.
Now I'm just trying to decide on my own fabric tail and fin and I'm thinking of ordering a MermaidKat fabric tail. Once I've got my tail I'd love to go to meetups and gatherings.

how...do...you ..survive...Scotland... lake/river ...swimming?!?!?!?
OK, I've scuba dived in Pennsylvania quarries and below about 15 feet they are a freezer in summer. In winter, a full wetsuit allows you about 40 minutes to not get hypothermia (useful for doing underwater Christmas trees and carving pumpkins).
I adore Scotland... but... how do you survive the coooooolllllldddddd!!!!

Hi swordwhale I’m still new to cold water swimming so I wear a wetsuit and use the power of peer pressure to make myself go in with a group because it’s so worth it. At the moment the temperature is 6-8 degrees C and it’s too freezing to put my face underwater long.
I hate crowded swimming pools so this is a good way to get some space when I’m ready to try a fin.

That's awesome! Do it while you're young! A dive hood (neoprene) and a mask will keep your face from freezing. You can still practice swimming with a dolphin kick (with a pair of fins) or get a monofin. Be careful using weights with a wetsuit; they are floaty, so I usually used a bit of weight to make me neutrally buoyant, but you do NOT want to sink and you DO want a quick release dive belt so you can dump weight in an emergency. Bet there's some way to incorporate a wetsuit into mermaid costuming...

Yep I’m going to practice with wetsuit and monofin. I love the dolphin kick!
