You might run into trouble trying to get something for free.
Designers and artists don't usually work for free. It's hard enough being a freelance designer.
Do you have anything you could trade for the logo? Or even try putting something together yourself.
You might surprise yourself with what you can do. We all start small [emoji4]

Put up a few examples of your work, and see what happens!
It's no guarantee of a trade, so I would play around with designing your own, or save up for someone qualified. [emoji2]

If you can't afford to pay for logo design, you're on your own. Artists have bills to pay and like to eat nutritious food regularly. Sparkly trade items likewise do not pay bills.

I would also be suspicious of any so-called "artist" who values their own work so little as to be giving it away for free. Any artist whose work is even halfway decent should be placing a value on their time and creative efforts.

Put a few paychecks aside so you can commission a logo from a graphic designer. They will probably want a deposit before beginning work, with the balance due at completion. (I presume you are employed if you have some sort of mermaid website ... ?)
