Measurements?

I plan to start tailmaking soon, and I was wondering how to take measurements.

A bunch of us use the masking tape method. I learned it by watching Sasha's video tutorial. If you haven't watched it yet, I encourage you to search it out. Even if you're not making a lycra tail, you should find it to be helpful.

Ooh, I forgot to mention though, if you are using it for a lycra tail, the stretch will determine if you have to measure or not. There's two way stretch, where it only stretches in one direction, say vertically, and four way stretch, where it stretches in both directions. I bought four way stretch from Joanne's, did all my measuring, and had to keep taking it in, because when I put it on, it'd just stretch more. I should have just made a tube, pinned it around myself to whatever tightness I wanted, and sewed it that way. All my measuring was for nothing :(
