I don't really understand why you can't have all those things as a merman. Mermen can have vibrant tails and accessories. Your Merman picture is already wearing a top, who is to say it can't be whatever aqua top you want. And plenty of men have long hair. And I would argue that all merpeople swim gracefully, that is not just a female trait.

I'm one of those mermen with long hair and a blue tail. ;) There are lots of ways to make your mersona stand out more! Add a trident or arm fins or jewelry related to the sea. Maybe some stripes on your tail....
