Before running into my roadblock of not having a scale mold, I was going to use plastisol. It is used for making custom fishing lures. Since it could be heated up and re-melted after making a lure, I don't know if it would have been good to use for making a tail. At the very least, I could practice and build my skill up before actually making a tail.

I bought 1 gallon of X-SOL Plastisol on Amazon for exactly $50 but have yet to try to use it.

There are a mass amount of color dyes on eBay, but they are not cheap. For plastisol, you can't use any dye. You need dye specifically for plastisol.
