So I recently ordered my first monofin (A Finfun one) and I've noticed it slightly curves down fresh out of the box (so if I set it on a flat surface with the feet pockets facing up it has a gap between the flat surface and the monofin).
Is this normal? Im new to mermaiding so Im not exact sure.

As far as what I can understand your describing yes, it should be. Monofins are meant to be flexible so in the water it shouldn't hinder anything you do, how if it does I would suggest talking to finfun customer service

that went swimmingly

The downward curve is intentional, and helps. Most persons cannot point their toes enough to have the fin be level when they are coasting. Some newer freediving monofins have an "angled" fin to help this issue. Finfun adds a little curvature to make a slightly angled fin.
I actually bend (with the help of some heat) my Finfin fins even more.
