I was wondering if the latex for tails can be coloured or tinted in the casting? Years ago, I did shoes and gloves for dolls and tinted my own latex. Maybe it's a different type of latex. It looks like the latex I use now for making moulds for casting plaster.

I was thinking it would expand more colour options and effects. Also help in paint rubbing off,not being as noticeable and easier to touch up?

Mermaid Star tinted her latex tail orange for that reason I believe. You can check out her huge thread on the tailmaking forums :) It works well! It just cost extra money for more paint.

Tinting works very well! I highly recommend it. I am just having an issue with tinting the latex and it muting the color a little since it has a pearlesent quality. I lose that when I mix it with the latex (since it is white and even when I clear latex is used, it still seems to lose it's luster). But it definitely is worth tinting your latex! You can use pigment or paint
