So, I've reached 100 fans on my facebook page and to celebrate I'd like to host some sort of a contest for a piece of jewelry. I'm thinking earrings or a hair piece perhaps. Maybe even a necklace. Anyways, I'm kind of blanking on what kind of a contest would be good to host. I want it to be open to anyone, even those who like my page after the fact, but I can't think of a good idea. So yeah, I guess I'm asking for any suggestions. :'P

Thanks guys!

P.S. Once the contest is open, feel free to try your hand at it (whatever it ends up being).

maybe you could pick a mermaidy theme, like scale themed, or (i'm a little biased) pearl themed! then say a jewelry or hair piece type, or just the theme.

Bracelets and earrings are simple enough that it might get a lot of interest.

Yeah, I'm kind of leaning towards earrings. The main problem I'm having is deciding how to host the contest. I don't want it to be something like 'share my page with friends' or anything like that, but I'm not sure I just want to draw a random name either. Gah, why is this so difficult? :/ I suppose I could host an art contest, but I'm not sure how well that would go... I might end up having to draw a name in the end.

The main idea behind contests is to increase traffic to your facebook or interest in you (ie more likes) this will increase your reach and will increase your opportunity to be hired which will make you money. That is the pay back for the gift you give during the contest. Perhaps a who ever gets more people to like your page or shares your page the most gets prize! The better the prize, the more people will fight to get it and the more reach you will obtain.

Judging: Maybe have a judging panel of 5 different friends or so that can cast a vote? That way you can also make a people's choice award too.

Wait, are you having people make the jewelry or are you making it and offering to give it away, like how Kariel sometimes does?

Haha, I'm making the jewelry to give away.

No problem Spin, I just reread my intro post and I can see exactly where you were coming from. :> I have a habit of being strangely ambiguous with my posts even when I'm trying to be specific. :'/

I agree with star - giveaways, coupons, etc are all hosted with the intent of increasing business. That's how you get a return on your giveaway. So, to boost your own exposure, business, etc, I would definitely recommend having the contest be something in the realm of increasing your traffic. How you would measure that is up to you, but that is what would be in your best interest.

That's a cute idea!!
It helps people be creative and get something they design and lets you get some new ideas
for jewelery designs~ For whichever item you choose are you going to make it a new featured
item in your store??

Yup yup. I think I've settled on what I'm doing. Yay!

I'm going to host a jewelry design contest. The contestants will design a piece of jewelry that they believe embodies mermaids and the winner will have their design handmade by me! They will be sent their piece for free and the design will become a new addition in my store!

That doesn't sound too blah, eh?

At this point, I'm not really sure what anyone was thinking. XD I got kind of confused too.

I did go ahead and start the contest. It's here, if any of you are interested.
