I would love to hear people's opinions on making patterns from scratch.

I am a thicker merperson and am looking for the most reliable way to get the most accurate measurements for a tail (so I don't waste too much fabric). I was thinking I might wrap in plastic wrap, then duct tape, then cut it off to make a base for a pattern, but I'm not sure if that's the BEST way to go about it.

I have seen videos stating to measure yourself, and trace on a paper, then match the measurements to the spots on the paper... but I worry I would mess that up in translation from measurement to paper.

Could I get your opinions on the best way to make a pattern from scratch? Please and thank you!!

I'd love to see the process! Anything I see a video on doesn't show the measuring process.. just the making of the tail XD

I have the Linden Monofin, currently, with a guppy tail from mertailor. Eventually I want to make a full body suit (2 pieces for safety ofc xD) out of neoprene. My vision, in the long run, is a sleek Orca look. XD
