So, Spike TV is always playing starwars, we had it on in the background and just when I looked up- Palpatine and Annakin are talking about the whole spying plot and Palpatine is just convincing Anakin to become a sith. Well, they're watching these big floating bubbles of water- and I realized, mermaids were swimming around in them and leaping from one bubble to the next!
I tried to find the scene on youtube, all I can find are dumb edits to make parodies, but you can still see the mers in the background. The scene is a lot longer than this, and you see them more.

actually the mythos behind the species is really interesting
they live on land through out their youth till the age of 18-20
at which point they go through The Changing Ceremony and turn into
what can basically be considered Mermaids

I actually read about melodies, the changing ceremony happens a lot eariler than 18 years old. More like closer to 12-15. And after that they have to be in the water or they will breath to death. The young ones(still human) have to take care of the eggs from which their born from and protect the ones who are changing. They made masks that allow them to breathe underwater for about twenty minutes so they can visit their elders for help and knowledge. They live for a few hundred years and the older they get the deeper they live. E older ones can't surface anymore.

I like that idea, of being human-like for a time and then pulling a butterfly transformation into a mer.
It's sort of like reverse amphibians, almost.
