Hello everymer!

The second issue of Tail Flip is now available and it's time to start looking towards the third. Raina & I are going to go about it a little differently this time. We have create a Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tail-Flip-Magazine/183696595093203), for a variety of reasons.
Keep everything in a single centralized location
Prevent clutter to the forums
Allow for easy updates for all who are interested

Have no fear if you do not have a facebook or do not feel inclined to see what's going on over there we will still be keeping this thread up to date, however things like nominations and voting will be taken care of over there.

We ask that if you have anyone you would like interviewed or any questions you would like someone asked, please email us your idea's. DO NOT GO & INTERVIEW THEM ON YOUR OWN. If you do there is no garuntee that your interview will be placed in the magazine.

***Note we will have a double Mer of the Issue as Mermaid Raven (Mer of the Issue for Issue #2) Did not have time for an interview due to planning her wedding.

Hmmmm dunno. I'd be interested in a DIY section but not sure exactly what you guys are looking for.

Weight belt, earrings, sculpture, what ever you can create that is mermaid themed. This would require step by step instructions & photos to easily follow along.

Also we will happily accept more then one article of each type as we would like to start working on gathering articles for later issues then #3. This would allow us to stay on top of things and not worry quite as much about deadlines. Also if we can build up an issue or more in advance it would give contributors more time to refine & research their articles.

Well it's probably not much but my blog has a few tutorials. If there's one you like you can grab it
off there, but I'm not sure I'll have time to make another one.

I know we've got someone signed on to do book reviews every issue, but as long as people don't review the same ones I think we should be fine with more than one.

The guy who draws my comic is starting to put more mers from the community into it so I thought maybe sticking one of his comics in would be funny too :D

I think for this issue we have enough interviews, we'll have 2 from our past cover models (lexandrian and cyd) and whoever the next cover model will be, I also had sent an interview question sheet to Thom Shouse and if he's able to get it back in time I think we'll have that too.

For people going to merpalooza Id love to have someone write about the experience and send in some pics.

I think HB Angela Mermaid is interested in doing another article about a charity

Id like to have an article that compares all the different types of tails out there (not makers, just types) if anyone is interested.

We'll likely adapt some threads into articles if anyone has suggestions for some that would work. The previous ones we did came from men in the community, tips to becoming pro, how to write a review etc.

We've done Mermaid Shelly and Dr Seaweed already in articles that talked about tail making, so I wouldn't mind keeping that theme going by maybe asking Stephanie from mermaid parties to write something up, or perhaps Star would be willing to turn her thread into an article, just an idea.

Oh the ideas will just keep a coming I'm sure!

Need a book reviewer? I just finished Ripple (mermaid book) and I currently own 37 mermaid books right now :P and most of them have been read.

The story of Mermaid is very interesting that I always like reading in childhood. It sounds that the flash flipping magazine made by flip magazine software (http://www.kvisoft.com/flipbook-maker-pro/) can be showed on Facebook page. As I said, we're good for reviews of books for this issue...

but on another note...

we're looking for suggestions for our next cover photo! Requirements: portrait oriented photo, high quality file size, mermaid/man related, with "negative space" that our text could be put into (see our previous covers for example), no background clutter etc. We're trying to feature mers who aren't already established professionals (not that we dont love them!) email raina at raina@rainamermaid.com your photo. Perhaps if we dont choose your photo for the cover, we can include it in a spread! So make sure you also give us credit links. - Raina

A how to be a mertender article is still in the to do list but until someone writes it or we have enough time to write it ourselves it's going to wait. There is a thread on here talking about the pro's & con's of mertenders that I started a while ago. That might be worth looking into. I voted (and included my reasoning on each) on facebook. I didn't mean to be offensive, and tried to make at least positive statements about everyone, but some qualities of tails I just don't have words for yet... need to adapt my language to find the right vocabulary and say what I mean.

A lot of people didn't realize voting ended today, despite our posting it several times. So a lot of people continued voting AFTER the poll was closed. Sadly, FB has no way to actually "close" the poll. Even if we hide it from the page, people can still click links for it. We had the same issue with mer-of-the-issue voting.

YOU CAN GET INVOLVED BY: submitting a photo for consideration for the cover! You can submit ads for FREE so long as they match our template in the notes section. You can submit a tutorial so long as it has not already been published about. You can write an article and submit it for consideration on any topic that relates to mermaiding - just be sure to follow the parameters we've set up in our notes section. Do you have a short story or a poem related to mermaiding? Submit that! Do you have a piece of mermaid art? Submit that! Review a mer-book, review a mer-movie! THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO is read our notes section for our rules on submitting and how to submit. Next to that, you should read our previous issues so you know what sort of material we publish! Please keep in mind, Tail Flip is run by two people, and that's it. We don't want to write every article, and we also make take a little bit to reply. We do this 100% on our own time, energy, and skills. Please take the time to read our notes. Don't forget we're still looking for submissions to be considered for our cover! The person on the cover also gets an interview feature inside. About Tail Flip:
The brain child of Raina the Halifax Mermaid Tail Flip would not be possible if not for her hard work and inspiration. While being assembled by Mermaid Sirena as are many of the advertisment.

Raina & Sirena founded this idea out of a common want for a magazine centered completely around the mer-community. Tail Flip is for the mer-community, and by the mer-community. It is intended to be a resource for you, an extension of the community, and a product of it. The majority of the articles are written or contributed by community members, & the few that aren’t were written upon request. You’re going to see some unique perspectives & hear more about projects!

There are so many interesting people in our world both mer & non-mer alike. There are so many who are concerned with the environment that an e-magazine was a unanimous choice. In addition, the magazine is completely free! This would not be possible without the volunteering of many members. I've already commented on the Facebook page, but I just can't seem to get the darn site to work for me. x.x AURGH... maybe it's the internet telling me to sleep. >>

Yea I saw your post, I could only view from my phone. I've checked it in several browsers now and it works fine for me but it does look like issu (the hosting site) has totally revamped. Can you try another browser? Sometimes it's simply add ons or extesions preventing stuff from showing up correctly.

I got it to work on Firefox and my phone the next day, and now it magically works on Chrome, too. Though, only after issue #5 was posted with that link. I went back to the site and it was fine. My roommate suggested that is was my computer. Which I am fully ready to blame because it is far outdated. *frown*

On a side note! I have three articles in brainstorming mode and will write an outline for soon! ^_^
