Hey everyone, I'm thinking about buying an airbrush system but have no idea what kind to buy. I want something relatively cheap but still be able to get the job done. Does anyone have an airbrush system they would recommend?

System as in, including a compressor?
I would try something from tcpglobal.com
You can also buy sets from amazon.

yes, with compressor. I was looking on amazon, and found one for $47 with pretty good reviews, so I'm thinking about getting that one. I'll check out that other site though too, thanks!

TCP Global is a great company. I bought my first airbrush set from them and it was a pretty good
deal. It was a Master airbrush set but that's sort of a really cheapo knockoff of Iwata. It's not
very good but it got the job done for me xD
I would recommend a Badger or Paasche. Those are make great brushes and they also have nice sets
for beginners.
Single action airbrushes are usually easy to use so I'd reccommend one of those.
As for compressors, usually the kits that bring airbrush and compressor are good, you don't need to
know much about your compressor other than it has to have enough psi to power your brush. TCP Global
usually shows the psi required to work a certain brush.

If you're going to buy from TCP Global, check out their ebay first. Their eBay page often has the same
bundles for lower prices + free shipping.

what type of paint do you buy for the airbrush paint for a latex tail say...

I actually heard floral paint (the paint they use to paint fabric flowers) is great for painting on
top of already cured latex. But usually you'll mix some color into the latex while it's still wet to
get a base color then paint on top of it afterwards. I think using powder pigment is a great option
because it's very strong coloring and will overpower the latex's natural color which sometimes
denatures paint that you mix in. You can buy powder pigment online or in specialty art stores,
also some normal art stores.

Textile paint is useful too, it's multipurpose and usually pretty strong.
Acrylic is good too, but its generally pretty thick so you may want to avoid it.

TCP is a great place to buy from, as is Amazon. If you buy a mini compressor (like the one shaped like an elephant) owning a compressor becomes much more affordable. I actually got one of those, but on Craigslist for half price ($25). Always look on Craigslist before you buy, sometimes there are parts or whole systems people are willing to sell for cheap.

Generally for tin cure latex (or ALEX) tails, Createx brand paint. It's a very popular airbrush paint and easy to find (see thread "Createx paint stores" (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?2238-Createx-Paint-Stores)). You can do acrylic paints and others, which are good for neoprene tails. However the thicker the paint to be sprayed, the more PSI you need, and mini compressors only go up to about 50 PSI, which is relatively low. I would think unless you're spraying enamels or lacquers that you'll be alright though, but I don't know a lot about this yet :P

Either buy a set or make SURE the parts are the right fittings to work together, and compatible PSIs, or else you will get a huge headache trying to fix things.
