Haha sorry guys, I just have to do it!
Anyway, I had made a pair of hooved shoes a while ago and I never got around to making
them.. UNTIL NOW!
3318
I've got em up on my etsy if anyone is interested~
https://www.etsy.com/listing/101865866/hooved-shoes
Right now the hooves are a bit small so they'll probably support max a shoe size of
around 8-9, I'm not really sure, I'm currently waiting for something in the mail
so I can finally start putting together a pair for myself so I can fully test them.
I have a few other little projects I'm working on that I will hopefully be releasing
very soon, including some lightweight shell bras and mermaid belt combos
3319
3320
As well as some arm-fins I've got sitting in a mold, waiting to cure that I've messed
up twice, now. We'll see how well those come out >__<

Gah. I always love your stuff Kanti.

okay first off, those shoes are freaking wicked. On april fools I told my fans I was switching to centaur fandom instead of mermaid, these shoes make me think I need to reconsider that again XD so epic looking, wow!
Great job on all the mer stuff too. lol those shoes just threw me for a loop
Kanti
06-11-2012, 05:08 PM
Aww thanks Lorelei! It means a lot when people say stuff like that~
Yea, I must say dry costumes are really my favorite but I'm trying to get some mer-stuff done too.
I really like doing aquatic-themed stuff~
But who's to say you can't do both :'P
I love wearing those to ren-fairs. People get so confused haha.

Someday I am going to get myself a pair of these shoes. I'm probably going to have to do another trade with you or something. X'D
By the way, I went ahead and watched your toutube video on the new hooves and they look much better when you have a video camera to them. Not sure why, but they do. By the way, you never did mention just how much you would take off the price if we sent you our own shoes.
Kanti
06-11-2012, 05:44 PM
Bleh sorry, I'm not good when talking on camera haha
Either way, I'm not really sure yet. It depends how long it takes me to attach the shoes but I'd
say they'd cost in the price range of $160-$190 if shoes are supplied.
Mainly due to the fact that I still have to modify the shoes a lot before they're ready for attachment.
Mermaid Lorelei

Sweet. $160-$190 is a lot closer to my budget. :'P

...um...I...MUST HAVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!! Those hooves are crazy Kanti!!! Are they hard to walk in?? I'll bet your calves feel it afterwards huh? I'll be stalking your etsy ;)
sunrise
06-11-2012, 06:57 PM
I love the shoes!! Do you walk on tip toe when wearing them? (If so, perfect. I'm almost always on tip toe, I blame my mom ;D )
Kanti
06-11-2012, 10:00 PM
@Lorelei - great! I didn't want to overcharge for them but I also don't want to
undercharge. They're a lot of work and the shoe needs to be modified quite a bit.
@Lindsey - Yep, you have to tippy-toe in them. It's annoying for your calves when
you first wear them, but I don't even get calf-aches anymore since I've been wearing
them so often. Since you're calves are essentially muscles and it's just working them
out, you can easily overcome that (and get nice toned calves xD).
On the other hand, the balls of your feet will hurt and there's nothing you can do about
that. It's just impossible to prevent since the pain comes from the fact that the balls are
supporting your entire weight, so it's really a matter of pressure.
I include a pair of Dr Schols in the listing for the shoes that I find work best with them.
@Sunrise - Yep, you have to tippy toe all the way. In theory you can get some shoes with
thicker arc supports so you can lean backwards in them a bit but I find it doesn't really
do much to ease the pain. I've learned to deal with it pretty well.

I think you're putting a very good price tag. You seem to have hit a pretty good mid-range, especially when you give the option to send in your own shoes. :>
By the way, you and I REALLY need to figure out a way to get together at some point for a freaking photo shoot! Gah, I can't say that enough. O.o'
Kanti
06-12-2012, 12:55 AM
Yea, there's another girl over etsy that sells the hooves only for $280 and REQUIRES that you send her
a pair of shoes. So in that sense I feel very justified in my price o_o
But I totally agree xD
Maybe we can go to an anime convention of some sort?

And i will be stalking your etsy and saving my money. :)
Mermaid Lorelei
06-12-2012, 01:06 AM
Who else sells hooved shoes? So far, you're the only one I've seen that makes any. And I agree. :P
Hmm, that might work. I know I might end up in Florida after I graduate from college, but that's still two years away. -dies-
Kanti
06-12-2012, 01:23 AM
Here's the other person who sells them (http://www.etsy.com/listing/97407034/heeless-hooves-custom-made-to-order?ref=sr_gallery_17&ga_search_query=hoof+shoes&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_min=0&ga_max=0&ga_search_type=all)
They're not bad looking, they're just like. Holy jesus, $280 for just the hooves!
I was probably going to raise my prices after a while and such but even if I raised them
I would ALWAYS include the shoe! That just seems like highway robbery o_o
Oh well, maybe the way she makes them is just very difficult and time consuming?
Not sure, I don't really want to judge, but it just seems like so much money.
And well, I might be more into traveling soon, depending on how well I do at this upcoming
convention I'm selling at xD
If all goes well I might be looking to take some "work vacations" to other conventions or
events to try and expand myself.
Either way, it's a thought. And 2 years is better than never! Haha
Haha oh Brooke. I apparently have some stalkers now. That's always nice though xD
Mermaid Lorelei
06-12-2012, 01:32 AM
Hmm. I took a look at them, and she doesn't hide the feet nearly as well as I would expect for such a high price. It seems more like she just sticks hooves on to shoes and decorates them up. They don't look bad at all, but I wouldn't pay that much...
Anyways, where might you be traveling to? I could probably get away to Arkansas, California, New York, or maybe Texas. Those are places I tend to travel pretty often. :> It'd be pretty awesome to meet up at a convention, that's for sure.

That's IT! I am SO getting a pair of these in the future and cosplaying Acorna! It WILL happen! *decisive nod*
Kanti
06-12-2012, 01:50 AM
I suppose so. I don't know anymore, I just can't compare my own work to anything else. Whenever I start
thinking my stuff is better I always get that feeling that I might be getting a bit big-headed xD
I just hope that people read her description before buying them, I'd really hate to decide to want to purchase
something that expensive then realize it doesn't even come with anything xD
I haven't thought of it very much. I suppose New York, Texas, or California would be really fun! I would
love to try and go someplace there~

Eh I made a walk video but for some reason I'm not to thrilled with these shoes.
http://youtu.be/cGv2DuFL3yE
I think it's because the angle of the shoe was too low when I attached it to the hoof?
Besides that, I love how it moves, this pair is much better than my previous.
What do you guys think?

@Lorelei let me know, im here in the city :)
@Kanti you got to let me know when you start selling shelltops
Mermaid Sirena
06-13-2012, 04:44 PM
Question, how easy are they to run in? Are they study enough to withhold up to say running around in the woods?
Kanti
06-13-2012, 04:58 PM
@Lanai - I can already begin making them if you'd like, I charge $100 for a belt and bra combo
$70 if you just want the bra. I'm still working on my display example but it will include netting, a custom
painted shell, lots of plant decoration, and painted shells on the belt to match. If you want, I can make
your design and take a photo and if you like it it's yours, if not I'll see if I can find someone else to but it xD
@Sirena - I would NOT run in these shoes. Especially not offroad. The hoof itself is so large it prevents normal
running, I can "run" but it's not really running, it's more of a gallop.

Yep. I'm getting these eventually. XD I just need to sell a few of my own things first. :/ And Kanti, I actually really like the look of these. I think they're more slender and delicate than the last pair.
@Lanai - I'll be sure to let you know, but you might have to remind me. XP I tend to get scatterbrained.

you know what would be super epic for cosplaying.... if they had fur on them :D it would make them really realistic! :3
Ayla of Duluth
06-13-2012, 06:30 PM
I'm sure fur would be really simple to attach. Just some faux fur from a fabric store and a hot glue gun.
Kanti
06-13-2012, 08:40 PM
I don't like adding fur to them, it actually takes away from the realism and illusion if you
add too much. I usually line the back and heels with some fur and that's it.
My friend made a fur "sleeve" once for the shoes, they were to dainty and the fur ruined
the illusion.
I think I know the reason they're not looking too good in that video, I'm already working on
a second pair to demonstrate different placement options.
Spindrift
06-13-2012, 09:13 PM
Nice! If I ever had a pair I think I would probably want some wispy hair "feathers" coming off of it, like how they sort of do in this picture:
http://www.cowboyway.com/images/HorseFeathers01.jpg
But like, not so much hair.
I also came across this the other day, and wondered if it was the same technique:

Kanti
06-13-2012, 10:21 PM
No, Spindrift, those are pony heels, they're loads more painful and they actually make you walk ON YOUR TOES
whereas mine make you walk on the balls of your feet. Pony shoes are more for fetish things.
http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2969109/
Here's a photo of some feathers I attached to my old shoes that made them look nicer.
It's not as bulky as furring them.
To attach that type of fur on there you're probably going to have to use hair extensions.
It could work, though.

Got around to making the shell bra.
Here's my first one, it's not completely done, I just wanted to take some photos of it before it got too dark.

Those are cute, but I can see why the others can pull such a high price. The other hooves by Oonacat are fantastic in their artistic design and super sexy. I only wish I could wear them, but I'm sure my broken foot would hate me. It clearly states that the shoes shown in her etsy are for example only, are her own shoes she made for herself and that the orders are custom orders, so the issue with toes showing can be remedied with whatever boot style someone chooses to have.
I'm curious as to why you have a problem with her price of $280 when you charge $230? That isn't that much of a change in price and it's obvious that she's an artist and puts her vision into play.
Oh, and before I forget, I LOVE those arm fins. Are you going to post pics of them being worn?
Well, I can't stop gushing enough on the fabulousness of the demon hooves. Even her video of walking in them is cute and well done. Thanks for sharing her etsy link. It would have taken me a lot longer to stumble upon her gorgeous hooves if you hadn't.

Those look amazing and super realistic!!!:)
But I just wanted to say, walking on the balls of your feet will give you the strongest darn calf muscles ever...as dancers should know ^.^ I actually climb stairs on demi-pointe (tippy-toes) for some reason...Although I will say it takes a lot of getting used to and calf muscle and balance but once you've got the hang of it, it won't be hard.

Oh yes! My calves are made of steel by now haha. Unfortunately, the balls of my feet will never get better.
They hurt no matter what you do, I guess because the weight of your body is just too much after a while.
@waternymph - xD I already sort of touched base on that. I don't really know the shoes too well, I just
glanced at them and when I read that that price was for just the hooves I sort of lost interest.
They're nice looking, I just prefer more realistic stuff! I also feel that $230 is a great discount from $280
because you're not really paying $280, you're also paying $280+the fee to buy your shoes if you don't already
have a pair that's fit, and the shipping which is like $15-$30. So her shoes cost around $300 PLUS whatever
she charges to ship them to you. Mine are $260 for the entire thing in one nice package! :') Not to mention
I slash the price down if you send me your own shoes!
You sure do know a lot about them, though! You should be her spokesperson ;') haha
